Huawei Cloud Fabric Cloud Connect Solution Passes the Tolly Group Performance Evaluation

Jul 09, 2014

The Huawei Cloud Fabric Cloud Connect Solution passed the Tolly Group's performance evaluation demonstrating the solution's capacity to support automatic deployment of computing, storage, and network resources for cloud services, simplifying cloud computing

Shenzhen, China, June 20, 2014 – Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that Huawei's latest Cloud Fabric Cloud Connect Solution passed the Tolly Group's series of tests. According to the test results, the Huawei Cloud Fabric Cloud Connect Solution uses a cloud service-oriented open architecture and provides comprehensive software-defined networking (SDN) capabilities to automatically deploy computing, storage, and network resources for cloud services through the Huawei Agile Controller and CloudEngine series data center switches, simplifying cloud computing.

To meet the challenges inherent in the rapid development of cloud computing, Huawei announced its Cloud Fabric Cloud Connect Solution at the Huawei Network Conference (HNC) in May, 2014. The solution aims to build a fully meshed cloud service system that connects cloud applications, cloud platforms, and various ICT resources to simplify cloud computing. The solution provides the following features:

Connects cloud services: The service-driven solution enables IT administrators to easily schedule network resources.

Connects cloud platforms: Huawei Cloud Fabric seamlessly connects to common cloud platforms and allocates ICT resources.

Connects ICT resources: Virtual and physical networks are interconnected with each other and all resources are displayed together.

Reduces the TCO: The solution is compatible with a range of physical devices to support smooth evolution.

The Huawei Cloud Fabric Cloud Connect Solution has drawn the attention of global media and customers. To verify automatic deployment for cloud services, Huawei agreed to rigorous testing by the Tolly Group, a leading global provider of third-party validation services. Drawing on their advanced technologies, equipment, independent test labs, and high-end experts, the Tolly Group provides independent, impartial, and objective testing and is highly recognized throughout the IT industry. Over the past decade, the Tolly Group has evaluated products and solutions of most major vendors, including Intel, IBM, Cisco, Juniper, and Microsoft.

The Tolly Group tested two core components in the Huawei Cloud Fabric Cloud Connect Solution: the Agile Controller and CloudEngine series data center switches.

The Agile Controller provides the following functions:

Connects to VMware vCenter to implement online network policy migration.

Connects to Microsoft System Center to support automatic delivery and configuration of network resources.

Supports OpenFlow 1.3 to provide centralized control and management for CloudEngine series switches.

CloudEngine series data center switches provide the following functions:

Supports OpenFlow 1.3 to connect to the Huawei Agile Controller and third-party controllers.

Functions as a hardware gateway (VXLAN or NVGRE gateway) on an overlay network. (VXLAN is short for virtual extensible LAN, and NVGRE is short for Network Virtualization using Generic Routing Encapsulations.)

Supports premium data center features, including Transparent Interconnection of Lots of Links (TRILL), Ethernet Virtual Network (EVN), Virtual System (VS), and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE).

The CE12800 core switch supports in-service software upgrade (ISSU), line-rate forwarding on 12*100GE high-performance cards, and millions of FIB entries.

"According to the test results, Huawei Cloud Fabric Cloud Connect Solution adopts service-oriented open architecture and supports all-round SDN capabilities. Huawei CloudEngine series data center switches support interconnection and interoperability with VMware vCenter and Microsoft System Center through the Agile Controller," said Zach Schaffer, Sales Manager of the Tolly Group. "With its open API and OpenFlow capability, Huawei CloudEngine series data center switches support SDN. In addition, the CE12800 core switch provides 12*100GE high-speed cards supporting 1.2 Tbit/s line-rate forwarding."

"It is inspiring that Huawei Cloud Fabric Cloud Connect Solution passed the Tolly Group's series of tests. The test results confirm the service-oriented open architecture and comprehensive SDN capabilities of the solution," said Wu Juye, Director of Data Center Network Products for Huawei's Enterprise Networking Product Line. "We believe that Huawei Cloud Fabirc Cloud Connect Solution incorporates computing, storage, and network resources to unify virtual and physical worlds. The solution implements multiple-cloud interconnection and cloud-based network migration."
