Shanghai, China, 12 December 2013 – Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today showcased its CloudEngine (CE) series data center switches obtaining Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 certification at Microsoft TechEd 2013. Huawei and Microsoft demonstrated their latest cooperative achievements in the field of data center to guests and media present at the conference. Huawei CloudEngine (CE) full-series data center switches had passed Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 certification, and Huawei's network operating system, Open Programmability System (OPS), had also succeeded in connecting to Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Virtual Machine Manager OMI Plugin, enriching Huawei's Software-Defined Networking (SDN) solution and enhancing Huawei's relationship with Microsoft in the data center network field. Huawei together with Microsoft will be providing their global customers with cloud computing data center solutions that feature powerful automation and programmability.

The rapid development of cloud computing and big data drives the increasing demands for cloud computing data center construction across the globe. It was predicted by an analyst institute that the access rate of mainstream servers would increase from 10GE to 100GE, the cluster scale would increase by tenfold, and the access rate and switching capacity of data center switches would also increase significantly over the next 10 years. Huawei and Microsoft will also carry out in-depth, effective cooperation in managing and maintaining super large computing data centers efficiently.

OMI is Microsoft’s open source implementation of CIM and WS-Management standards from the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF), designed to be the enablement for the Datacenter Abstraction Layer (DAL).

CE series data center switches are high-performance switches put forth by Huawei for cloud computing data centers and high-end campuses, which include Huawei's flagship products CE12800 series CORE switches and CE6800/CE5800 series high-performance TOR switches (10GE/GE access switches). Huawei's network operating system, OPS, is built on Huawei proprietary Versatile Routing Platform version 8 (VRPv8). The OPS opens network service functionalities to service developers, connecting networks to user services.

After passing Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 certification for OMI based switches, Huawei CE series switches will be widely deployed in cloud computing data centers, which can directly manage Huawei CE series switches, for highly efficient and automated data center management. Additionally, through the use of the industry-leading CE series switches, Windows Server-based cloud computing data centers will become more elastic and scalable, support full-scale virtualization, provide high reliability, and ensure a non-stop service experience.

At Microsoft TechEd 2013, Mr. Mark Wu, Enterprise Networking Product Line Marketing Chief Engineer, Huawei Enterprise Business Group, presented a speech with "Microsoft & Huawei SDN Solution" as its theme and along with Microsoft experts demonstrated the latest cooperation achievements of Huawei and Microsoft in the data center field.

Jeffrey Snover, Distinguished Engineer, Windows Server and System Center, Microsoft, said: “Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V and System Center 2012 R2 form a trusted and flexible platform for datacenters, as well as private and service provider clouds. Huawei CE series networking Switches are certified for Windows Server 2012 R2, which ensures customers that they integrate and interoperate with the Microsoft platform. Huawei demonstrated its high-performance gateways as part of its advanced Cloud Fabric solution at Microsoft TechEd 2013. We look forward to working with Huawei on cloud computing solutions that deliver powerful automation and programmability for our customers worldwide.”

"Currently, in the data center network product field, Huawei is rapidly growing and making significant breakthroughs by leveraging its accumulated experience. Huawei boasts its industry-leading CloudEngine series data center switches and Cloud Fabric solution." said Mr. Mark Wu. "We are now entering the ecological chain of the data center industry in an open, cooperative, and proactive manner. We have established a full-scale strategic alliance with Microsoft in the data center field. Now Huawei CloudEngine full-series products have passed Microsoft Windows Server certification. This marks the very beginning for Huawei together with Microsoft to provide cloud computing data center solutions that feature powerful automation and programmability to assist customers across the world in achieving grand business success."
