Beijing, China, December 20, 2013 – Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, and China Mobile, one of the largest telecommunications service providers in the world, jointly announced that the China Mobile - Huawei Warehouse IDC project, a collaboration between Huawei and a subsidiary of China Mobile, Heilongjiang Mobile, has won the DatacenterDynamics Greater China 2013 Award in the Green Data Center Category.

The China Mobile - Huawei Warehouse IDC project, located in Heilongjiang Province, Northeastern China, is a joint pilot project between Huawei and China Mobile in the green data center field. Leveraging on the cold climate in Heilongjiang as natural coolant, Huawei incorporated modular data center solutions and optimized confined-channels and airflow management to maximize utilization efficiency of the natural cooling source. In addition, Huawei also adopted an efficient uninterrupted power supply system to further reduce energy consumption during energy transmission and distribution processes.

“Over the past few years, China Mobile has been investing heavily to develop large data centers throughout China. In response to the increasing business needs of communications network operations and the rise of data-related business, we see an urgent need to plan and build highly efficient data centers with low energy consumption,” said Mr. Liu Weijun, Project Manager of the Planning Department of the Helongjiang subsidiary of China Mobile. “For the China Mobile - Huawei Warehouse IDC project, we emphasized on energy efficiency at the beginning of the planning phase, and had continued to evaluate and improve energy efficiency of the data center throughout its construction. With this pilot project, we hope to contribute to the data center industry by sharing our valuable experience in energy efficiency optimization within China Mobile Group with the industry.”

According to real-time data of the the China Mobile - Huawei Warehouse IDC project, the average annual Power Usage Efficiency (“PUE”) ratio, a measure of energy efficiency in data centers, is less than 1.22, compared to an average industry standard of over 1.50. The project also marked the first successful deployment of indirect natural cooling in data centers, incorporating features like -48V full dispersion of Direct Current (DC) power supply, double-story layout, intelligent management and real-time PUE monitoring.

“China Mobile has always been innovative in data center construction, and Huawei is very honored to receive the award with China Mobile,” said Mr. Zhang Guanghe, Data Center Product Director of Huawei Network Energy Product Line. "Huawei is committed to customer-centric innovation. To address the needs of large, sustainable and energy efficient green data centers, Huawei has integrated its modernized energy efficiency concept with the needs of customers to maximize energy efficiency and customize features of green data centers to suit the needs of different business operation environments.”

With over ten years of experience in the data center industry, Huawei has been working with over 330 large data centers, including 70 cloud data centers around the world to develop highly efficient data centers and will continue to invest in research and development to enhance efficiency of data center products and solutions, providing customized product offerings to customers from different industries.
