Barcelona, Spain, 12 November 2013–Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, is showcasing its "Agile Network, Agile World" vision, unveiling “agile service, agile management and agile evolution" as the motto for the next generation network in Europe at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2013.

At the Symposium’s welcome reception held by Gartner and Huawei this week, Mr. Leon He, President of Huawei’s Enterprise Business Group in Western Europe, shared the company’s views and insights on the challenges and trends of building enterprise ICT infrastructure in a fast-changing environment. "Driven by the major trends of big data, cloud computing, mobility and socialization, traditional enterprises are transforming towards digital enterprises,” said Mr Leon. “This calls for a shift of ICT infrastructure from traditional technology-centric to future user experience-centric architectures."

The legacy enterprise network now faces three great challenges: insufficient service processing capability, fault location difficulties, and slow service responses. Huawei believes that the traditional technology-centric networks must evolve to user experience-centric networks, which are defined as Agile networks by Huawei.

Huawei identifies the key characteristics of an agile network in three dimensions of agile service, agile management and agile evolution which are intelligent, elastic, unified, convenient and open. This will bring to customers a ‘change-on-demand’ network capability, more adaptable to fast-changing services; a user experience-centric network providing consistent service experiences for users; and an open network, accelerating enterprise transformation.

Huawei unveils the new series Agile switches S12700 in the symposium.

Leveraging over twenty years of accumulated experience in the data communications field, Huawei again stands at the forefront of technological innovation and rolled out its S12700 series agile switches. Huawei S12700 uses a fully programmable fabric architecture that is capable of more rapid customization, supporting a smooth evolution into the future SDN architecture. The next generation switch integrates the forwarding of wired and wireless services and unified user management mechanisms to ensure a converged and consistent user experience. Moreover, Huawei S12700 provides a real-time network traffic detection function to help customers locate complicated network faults quickly.

The Huawei Agile switches will create an open and simplified network architecture to quickly respond to enterprises' service changes.

In addition, the agile switches use Huawei Transformer series Ethernet Network Processor (ENP) chipsets, which have high performance comparable to traditional Application-specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) chips and high flexibility like NP chips, ensuring that Huawei S12700 switch can accommodate future network requirements while maintaining high forwarding performance. In this manner, Huawei S12700 switch fully supports the smooth evolution of enterprise networks into the next-generation campus networks.

The Huawei S12700 series switches bring the following innovation values:

  • First switch that uses Ethernet Network Processor (ENP) chips
  • First switch that implements back-to-back switch fabric clustering and supports 1+N MPU backup in a cluster
  • First switch that supports millions of table entries
  • First switch that virtualizes the entire wired or wireless network into a device
  • First switch that supports T-bit wireless Access Controllers (ACs)
  • First switch that supports the professional user management function
  • First switch that improves 2-level H-QoS to 5-level H-QoS
  • First fifth-generation programmable switch in the globe
  • Huawei Agile Switch Drives Market Transformation

According to Internet Data Centre, the market share of SDN technology in the enterprise service and cloud service provider field will increase from US$360 million in 2013 to US$3.7 billion by 2016. With emerging Agile switch solutions in the industry, it can be predicted that there will be a significant market transformation in the switch market.

As a leading global device vendor in the IP field, Huawei is committed to meeting the needs of the Ethernet market by launching its groundbreaking new agile network architecture and agile switches. This latest innovation from Huawei marks a significant step in Huawei's efforts to bring more value to its customers and to facilitate business transformation, changing the future of the industry.
