Shenzhen, China, October 22, 2013 - Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that Huawei GSM-R solution has been selected by the Turkish State Railways (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları, TCDD), to support the implementation of a modern digital railway communication network for the Kayas-Kayseri railway project, contributing to the technological advancement and improved efficiency of the national railway operations. The contract marks another milestone in the Turkish market by Huawei following the Eskisehir-Alayunt-Kutahya-Balikesir project and Alsancak-Cumaovası-Torbalı-Tepeköy project. This continuous success in Turkey’s rail market underlines Huawei’s strength on seamless integration of multi vendor GSM-R networks, swift delivery of complex European Railway Transportation Management System (ERTMS) projects and railway ICT experience from customer projects all across the globe.
This is the first project in Eastern part of Turkey for Huawei GSM-R. TCDD’s Kayas-Kayseri railway line is located on the Anatolia plateau and concludes with a total length of 367 km, 34 stations and 22 tunnels connecting the cities of Ankara and Kayseri. The GSM-R solution for the Kayas-Kayseri line will be designed by Huawei to meet the stringent European Train Control System, level 2 (ETCS L2) signal system requirements for operational speeds of up to 160 km/h and will interoperate with the existing GSM-R core network infrastructure provided by NSN (Nokia Solutions and Networks).
The Kayas to Kayseri line in Anatolian plateau is known for its geographically complex environment. Huawei’s radio design therefore applied a mix of indoor macro base stations to benefit from wide coverage scenarios and Huawei’s innovative distributed base station mainly applied in tunnels, cuttings and at railway junctions. Besides GSM-R BSS and integration services Huawei will supply SDH nodes for up to STM-16 capacity. This carefully applied design will allow TCDD to take maximum benefit from an efficient and reliable operation and minimized operating expenditure. As demonstrated on other GSM-R projects, Huawei GSM-R solution satisfies stringent ERTMS ETCS L2 signaling system requirements and fully complies with the EIRENE requirements as mandated by rail authorities all over the world. Huawei actively cooperates with relevant manufacturers through extensive IOT campaigns with their respective rail portfolio. With GSM-R put into operation on the Kayas to Kayseri line interconnectivity between the cities will be significantly improved and support economic development within the region.
Huawei is committed to GSM-R since 2002 and has established worldwide leadership in the creation of communication networks that integrate reliable railway information services, systems and software applications into a single ICT system. Leading the GSM-R market growth and successfully supporting railway customers globally, Huawei achieved a 61% market share for 2012 overseas GSM-R contract values. Globally, Huawei GSM-R solution, by Q3 2013, has been contracted for a total length of 14,000 km of railway lines.
