Amsterdam, the Netherlands, September 16, 2013 - Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, showcased its latest media and entertainment (M&E) ICT infrastructure solutions at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) 2013, the leading and largest radio and television equipment exhibition in Europe. Built on an open and integrated ICT architecture, the solutions, which include IP-based all-in-one network, high definition (HD) program production and broadcast, tapeless media database and post-production systems, help customers in the media industry enhance business agility and operational efficiency and achieve commercial success.

"To address growing needs of customers in the media industry as they are moving towards full HD and triple play bundling, Huawei has developed innovative ICT infrastructure solutions that leverage on our technological expertise in cloud computing, storage and network, to help customers in the industry to cope with new development trends and achieve business success," said Mr. Deng Yi, Director, Large Enterprise Sales Department of Huawei Enterprise's Global Sales Department.

The constant evolution of digital technologies has been accelerating the expansion of HDTV channels, 3D/IMAX film markets, and emerging mobile media markets. HDTV, digital media libraries, and omnimedia have become growing trends in the media industry. Through customer-centric innovation and collaboration with partners, Huawei is committed to providing secure, efficient, and sustainable one-stop solutions and optimal services for customers in the M&E industry. For instance, the recently launched HD production solutions for TV stations feature the following key benefits:

  • Elimination of sound or image freeze or frame loss: By deploying a 1.25 GB dynamic large-cache switch in the access layer of the workstation, Huawei M&E ICT solutions effectively help eliminate sound or image freeze or frame loss due to packet loss caused by explosive video streams.
  • Minimal end-to-end link delay time from workstation to storage systems: Long frame transmission time (over 40 ms per frame) can lead to video freeze and low production efficiency. To tackle this, Huawei solutions ensure a less than 40 ms end-to-end link delay time from the workstation to storage systems through zoning design based on packaging, transcoding, rough editing, and fine editing, as well as flat two-layer network, link load balancing algorithm, and storage file system parameter optimization.
  • Reduce operation and maintenance (O&M) costs: Huawei’s IP-based network-attached storage (NAS) and non-blocking switching network solutions help customers address challenges of network complexity and high operation and maintenance (O&M) costs due to the dual-network architecture for non-linear editing. With the solutions, customers can effectively streamline network architecture and reduce O&M costs by 50%.

In addition, Huawei and China Central Television (CCTV), China's national media broadcast and production agency, have recently announced a strategic partnership during Huawei Cloud Congress 2013. Under the partnership, both Huawei and CCTV will collaborate in a number of areas, such as big data storage and massive media asset management, to provide cutting-edge technologies and application models customized for the ICT evolution in the M&E industry. Huawei will be providing a system that features large-capacity and high storage performance, significantly improving data access and management efficiency. In addition, the system will help save energy consumption by 60% to 80%, making it the most eco-friendly media storage system in the industry.

Huawei M&E ICT infrastructure solutions have been successfully deployed in a number of renowned film and television agencies and organizations, including IMG Worldwide, Rain Post Production, CCTV, China Network Television (CNTV), and Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited. In addition, Huawei has also established extensive collaboration with acclaimed media application service providers to provide reliable M&E solutions to customers. These partners include Quantum, Daystrom, Tedial, Digital Domain, VSN, Sobey, and Jetsen. Featuring high performance, open architecture, high energy efficiency, and cutting-edge technologies, Huawei M&E solutions will help customers in the media industry to drive business success and development.
