Brussels, Belgium, 5 June 2013 – Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, joined forces with leading international business school INSEAD and business executives’ community CIONET for the European CIO of the Year 2013 Awards. The ceremony took place yesterday in Brussels during the CIO CITY 2013 conference, which brought together IT and non-IT business leaders. Mr Leon He, President of Huawei’s Western Europe Enterprise Business Unit, gave one of the awards.
Presented by EU Commission Vice-President Neelie Kroes, the European CIO of the Year Awards rewarded chief information officers who made their organisations more successful by using ICT in innovative ways.
The awards cover three categories, each representing an important type of business value that CIOs can help organisations achieve: Technology-Driven CIO, Business Process-Driven CIO, and Client-Driven CIO. Mr He gave the ‘Client-Driven CIO’ award together with Commissioner Kroes to Mr Gerry Pennell, CIO of the 2012 London Olympics.
"ICT plays an ever-increasing role for businesses’ success in Europe and elsewhere. The awards aim to reward outstanding achievements in this field while raising awareness of the need to harness the potential of information and communications technologies for business in Europe," Mr He explained. "Huawei is delighted to support this pioneering initiative."
The awards were presented during the CIOCITY conference in Brussels on 3-4 June 2013. This event provided participants with the opportunity to learn how to take control of investments in digital technologies, and how to use them to achieve various objectives – from enhancing business operations and improving customer focus to developing new products and services.
This year’s conference highlighted the importance of fostering efficient CEO-CIO partnerships with a view to achieving digital growth. Providing European business with the ICT tools they need to achieve sustainable growth is among the key objectives of Huawei’s strategy in Europe. Huawei provides highly efficient ICT solutions and services to its enterprise customers, including network infrastructure, cloud computing, and enterprise information security.
