Paris, France, May 24, 2013 - Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider and recognized leader in the LTE industry, and Rohill, specialised in the development, production, sales and support of professional mobile communication infrastructures, showcase the LTEtraNode (an integrated LTE/TETRA solution) at Critical Communications World 2013 (Incorporating TETRA World Congress) on May 23, demonstrating their innovative communications solutions to an international audience.

To strengthen their positions in the mission critical communications market and to prepare themselves for future demand, Huawei and Rohill decided to partner and combine their individual strengths in LTE and TETRA. Huawei and Rohill started a joint development under which the two companies will provide innovative mobile broadband solutions for the mission and business critical communications market. With the rapid growing number of public and private LTE networks globally, Huawei and Rohill see a growing customer demand for mobile broadband networks that integrate with existing TETRA networks in order to provide TETRA functionalities on top of LTE. The LTEtraNode solution and future developments will not only aim for the public safety market but for the whole government and enterprise market like transportation, utilities, oil & gas industry.

During CCW the companies are showing the capabilities of the integrated LTE/TETRA solution by means of several demonstrations of use cases. The LTE/TETRA solution enables the mission critical end-user to access the same data capacity and capabilities that already have been successfully introduced for public networks. This together with equipment that meets the mission critical requirements in relation to the performance, availability, reliability and security makes it the right solution for a wide range of applications.

The LTE/TETRA solution as demonstrated at CWW is a first step in executing a longer term strategy. Huawei and Rohill strongly believe that further LTE/TETRA integration and standardization is the way forward to enable end users to make full use of data capabilities offered by LTE. Any intermediate solution which does not focus on LTE is probably outdated at the moment the products are launched. Rohill and Huawei will develop solutions that can be deployed on generic 3GPP defined frequency bands, but also in other low and high frequency bands to satisfy specific coverage and capacity requirements. Further suitable terminals will be developed that are open to the standards and suitable for different applications.

In January 2013, Huawei officially became member of the TCCA (TETRA and Critical Communications Association, the global TETRA and Critical Communications Association). Huawei will use its accumulated technology in the field of wireless communications to contribute more power in the evolution from the TETRA professional trunked technology to the next generation.

TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) communication standard is widely used and deployed for mission and business critical voice communications. TETRA provides significant advantages compared to other radio systems, such as the voice quality, the communication features (trunking, priority/preemption, encryption, recording, etc.) and its interoperability capabilities.

LTE (Long Term Evolution), also known as 4G, offers higher uplink and downlink data rates, lower latency (allowing a call setup period which is better than what can be achieved by the TETRA standard) and high-speed mobility compared to other access technologies. Based on the understanding for enterprise needs, Huawei promotes eLTE (enterprise LTE) which features multi-band (from 400Mhz~5.8GHz), multi-scenarios, multi-service and full-portfolio. It makes LTE more suitable for building the next-generation mission critical communications networks and applications. By this means, the networks are capable of delivering high-bandwidth and demanding applications such as video-based situational awareness, trunking interposable with Tetra under harsh environments.
