Huawei Joins OpenStack Foundation

Shenzhen, China, Oct. 23, 2012 – Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announced its membership in the OpenStack Foundation, a global collaboration aimed at the development, distribution and adoption of the OpenStack cloud operating system. As an active participant and advocate for an open cloud computing ecosystem, Huawei will work with other members of the Foundation to promote the development and application of a ubiquitous cloud computing platform.

Huawei is the latest member in the fast-growing OpenStack community of over 2,000 developers and 190 companies, which includes IBM, HP, AT&T, Red Hat, SUSE, Canonical, Cisco, Dell, and VMware. Members of the Foundation share the same vision and jointly contribute to the OpenStack project, an open source project providing software for the deployment and management of public and private clouds. With its openness and compatibility with various hardware platforms and heterogeneous VMs, OpenStack has emerged as the most influential and promising open source cloud computing project in the industry and has gained recognition from users and developers around the world.

In addition to OpenStack, Huawei is an active participant in other open source and cloud computing communities. Leveraging its strong R&D capabilities and customer-centric innovation, Huawei has accumulated extensive experience and comprehensive technical expertise in the cloud computing field. It has collaborated with 85 customers from 33 countries on commercial cloud deployments, and has also implemented the largest desktop cloud system in the world serving 70,000 users as of June 2012. To date, Huawei has helped customers worldwide establish 260 data centers, including 35 cloud computing data centers.
