The Wireless Packet Core (WPC) market revenues grew 24% over the last year during the third quarter of 2011, as service provider demand for wireless data subscriber management remained robust.
According to Dell'Oro Group, Ericsson maintained its market share lead in revenues, followed by Huawei and Cisco.
"Over 100 service providers have committed to launching LTE networks. With over one-third of these having commercially launched, the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) equipment supporting these 4G networks is now 5% of the overall packet core market," said Chris DePuy, Analyst at Dell'Oro Group.
"The EPC segment provides an opportunity for new vendors to enter this high-growth market, which we expect to grow over 200% in 2012."
The report shows that overall wireless Packet Core revenues reached over $740 million in the third quarter of 2011.
WPC equipment is data-carrying and data-managing equipment used by service providers to support the wireless device access to data and advanced services.
