Huawei Tech Sets Up IP Centre at BUET

Bangladesh, Dec. 20 – World leading telecom solution provider Huawei Technologies has built an Internet Protocol (IP) training centre at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) at a cost of US$ 540,000.

The objective of the training centre is to develop skilled manpower in the IP sector that will create employment in the coming days to keep pace with the development of the information and communication technology.

State Minister for Science and Technology Yeafesh Osman Monday inaugurated the IP centre which was equipped with 30 computers and other relevant equipment.

A total of 150 people- divided into five batches- will be trained each year in the centre, said Huawei authority.

The persons who have completed graduation on Computer Science from any institution will be able to apply for the two-month training course costing almost Tk 18000.

The IP centre has been set up at the Institute of Information and Communication and Technology (IICT) of BUET.

In the inaugural programme, Yeafesh Osman underscored the need for making the people into skilled nationals and requested the Huawei to set up a research and development (R&D) centre in the country.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education Ministry Rashed Khan Menon, MP, BUET vice chancellor Prof Dr SM Nazrul Islam, Pro-VC Prof Habibur Rahman, Political Counsellor of Chinese Embassy to Dhaka Yang Zhaohui and Huawei Chief Executive Officer (CEO) here Wonder Wangdexian were present in the inaugural programme.Published by HT Syndication with permission from The Financial Express.
