Huawei Joins Forces with Fudan University to Conduct 802.11ax Wi-Fi Testing to Accelerate Smart Campus Innovations

[Shenzhen, China, September 30, 2018] Huawei recently announced that it has preliminarily completed testing on the transmission performance of the Huawei X-Gen Wi-Fi Solution — an innovative solution that complies with the latest 802.11ax Wi-Fi standard — at Fudan University, a top-ranked university in China.

The test results reveal that the Huawei X-Gen Wi-Fi Solution outperforms mainstream 802.11ac Wave 2 solutions, with a three-fold increase in maximum transmission speeds and a four-fold jump in the number of concurrent users supported. Subsequently, this solution will use the platform of the IPv6 Network Testing Center, Fudan University, to carry out further testing and perform constant optimizations and upgrades according to the testing data.

This ground-breaking joint testing between Huawei and Fudan University is a result of Huawei’s long-standing technical expertise in the WLAN sector. It will accelerate the deployment of wireless smart campuses and drive new 802.11ax services across the entire industry.

Emerging services like the Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and 4K/8K HD video are gaining momentum, and wireless endpoints are growing in numbers. All these trends pose higher demand for Wi-Fi bandwidth, latency, and user concurrency. Therefore, the next-generation 802.11ax standard is emerging.

Huawei is an important contributor to the development and promotion of the newest 802.11ax standard. The 802.11ax-compliant X-Gen Wi-Fi Solution greatly improves wireless access bandwidth and increases the number of concurrent users. Additionally, this solution is designed with built-in IoT access capabilities and allows converged access of endpoints using various IoT protocols, such as Bluetooth, ZigBee, and RFID. With these merits, this solution is ideal for innovative service rollouts across education, healthcare, government and enterprise offices, and other sectors.
