Huawei not only pursues technological advancement, but actively uses technology to create economic and social value. In addition to generating tax revenue for local authorities, it creates jobs and stimulates the overall industry chain. Huawei uses innovative ICT solutions to build digital engines, drive local digital transformation, promote economic growth, and improve people's livelihoods. The ICT industry is knowledge-intensive, relying heavily on trained professionals. Huawei is more than ready to serve as a platform to help countries around the world train a new generation of ICT talent. This will positively impact the digital skills of local practitioners, actively benefit local communities, and drive sustainable social development.
By 2020, Huawei had already certified more than 400,000 ICT professionals in 1557 Huawei ICT academies — 358 located inside China and 1199 out-. Huawei hopes to build education, industry, and public talent ecosystems by formulating standards, establishing alliances, and advocating the value of talent. Huawei will invest at least US$50 million in global university-enterprise cooperation and aims to cultivate one million ICT professionals by 2024.
Huawei trusts in the power of communications and connectivity, believing that education is critical to creating opportunity and supporting sustainable and equal development. As such, the Seeds for the Future program provides students with unique opportunities to come into close contact with the latest ICT products and innovations. Through the program, Huawei shares ICT expertise and experiences gained through global business operations, helping students open their eyes, broaden their minds, and strengthen their ICT expertise and skills. In short, Seeds for the Future actively drives the development of the ICT industry across the world. The program, which has operated uninterrupted for 21 years, has seen approximately 5800 students participate in more than 100 countries and regions.
In Africa, as part of its efforts to bring education to remote areas of the world, Huawei worked with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Kenya's Safaricom, and social enterprise Close the Gap, turning container trucks into mobile digital classrooms — Huawei DigiTrucks. This solution extends ICT training to teachers, women, and young entrepreneurs in remote and rural areas of Africa, providing them with easier access to digital education resources. Simply put, the solution is helping to change the course of many young peoples' lives.
