[Bangkok, Thailand, December 19, 2025] The launch event for Huawei's Intelligent Substation Solution, themed "AI Empowering New-Gen Intelligent Substation," was successfully held in Bangkok. During the event, Huawei and Thailand’s largest power company, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), jointly released the innovative practice of next-generation intelligent substation solution, setting a new milestone for the digital and intelligent transformation and upgrade of substations in Thailand.

William Zhang, President of Enterprise Business at Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., stated that "The new electric power system faces new trends such as green energy adoption, grid flexibility, interactive power consumption, and energy storage coordination. Digitalization and intelligence are key to addressing these challenges. As a critical power hub in the grid, the digital and intelligent upgrade of substations is essential for improving grid reliability. The New-Generation Intelligent Substation Solution jointly released by Huawei and PEA supports intelligent inspection and efficient operation and maintenance of substations through multi-dimensional protection with optical-visual linkage and AI-based predictive maintenance, significantly enhancing substation safety, reliability, and operational efficiency."
Pantong Thinsatit, Assistant Governor (Grid Operation - Network Operation) of PEA, said " Digital transformation is an inevitable choice for high-quality development in the power industry. PEA is accelerating the intelligent upgrade of substations, using technological innovation to redefine new paradigms of energy services. So far, we have successfully deployed intelligent unmanned systems in 467 substations, leveraging cutting-edge technology to build a solid defense for the safe operation of the power grid. Looking ahead, we will continue to deepen our efforts toward "reducing manpower and achieving full automation." By breaking down data barriers through interconnected systems, we will integrate diverse scenarios such as smart poles, license plate recognition, battery monitoring, and emergency buttons, enabling rapid and precise response to commands like fire and smoke alarms. This will make intelligent substations the core hubs of energy ecosystem collaboration, providing replicable models for the digital and intelligent transformation of the industry."
Currently, traditional substations generally face three major pain points: limited security protection measures, making it difficult to achieve 24/7 comprehensive monitoring; high workload and insufficient timeliness and accuracy in manual inspections; complex traditional wiring methods, high latency in data transmission, and inadequate stability, making it difficult to support multi-service concurrent processing and intelligent scheduling requirements. To address these pain points, Huawei’s Intelligent Substation Solution leverages three core capabilities to build a comprehensive upgrade path:
Perimeter Protection: An All-Weather Digital Defense Line
By deploying perimeter protection solutions that utilize optical fiber sensing technology combined with Huawei’s AI algorithms, intrusion behaviors can be automatically identified. The system quickly linkage monitoring system, and operation and maintenance personnel conduct remote secondary confirmation, shifting from "post-incident response" to "active early warning." With 24/7 monitoring, this establishes an all-weather digital security protectline.
Intelligent Inspection: Innovating Operation and Maintenance Models
By deploying intelligent inspection solutions based on multi-scenario AI inspection algorithms, Computer Vision (CV) large models combined with historical data analysis, and cloud-edge collaboration technologies, capabilities such as automatic meter reading and transformer oil leakage warnings are supported. This enables remote real-time management of equipment operation status, achieving "AI precise identification and real-time alerting," with minute-level response from fault detection to resolution.
Full Connectivity: Building a Sensing Network
By deploying intra-station PON optical fiber networks using point-to-multipoint passive optical access technology, deployment costs and time are significantly reduced. This creates the "nervous system" of the power grid, providing deterministic connectivity guarantees for intelligent operation and maintenance.
The release of this collaborative achievement marks an important breakthrough for Huawei and PEA in technological innovation and ecosystem cooperation. Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to collaborate closely with Thai power companies and partners to accelerate the digital and intelligent transformation of the electric power industry.
