Huawei Showcases the FRMCS Bearer Network Solution for Smart Railway at the 11th UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail

Mar 09, 2023

[Marrakech, Morocco, March 9, 2023] Huawei showcased FRMCS Bearer Network Solution for Smart Railway at the 11th UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail — a prestigious event that brings together global thought leaders to dive into digital innovations and best practices in the high-speed rail industry. This future-proof solution is a great fit to build a digital foundation for smart railways, in turn unleashing digital productivity.

As high-speed railways develop rapidly around the globe, the railway industry accelerates intelligent service innovation to comprehensively improve railway safety, efficiency, and experience. Traditional wireless communication bearer networks for railways, however, cannot deliver high bandwidth, low latency, flexible deployment, and multi-service convergence needed for FRMCS.

Lyu Liang, Director of Transportation Industry Solutions, Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, delivered a keynote speech about Huawei's FRMCS Bearer Network Solution for Smart Railway.

"With the advent of FRMCS, Huawei keeps up with this by launching its FRMCS Bearer Network Solution for Smart Railway that builds on cutting-edge IPv6 Enhanced technologies," said Mr. Lyu in the speech. "This solution is ideal for building a converged bearer network featuring high reliability, easy deployment, intelligent operations and maintenance (O&M), and smooth evolution. This, in turn, reliably supports multiple services, such as FRMCS, signaling, and video, safeguards railway security and stability, and unleashes digital productivity of smart railways."

Huawei's FRMCS Bearer Network Solution for Smart Railway enables an end-to-end unified bearer network from local access at railway stations, regional aggregation, all the way to core backbone. This solution stands out with four unique benefits:

• High reliability and smooth evolution: Huawei's solution offers GE to 400GE large bandwidth, supports E1, STM-1, and other interfaces, and is compatible with all services on legacy railway networks, paving the way for smooth evolution. It also supports high-precision 4G/5G clocks and therefore reliably underpins FRMCS.

• One network for all services: Huawei's solution builds on state-of-the-art IPv6 Enhanced technologies and adopts FlexE hard slicing technology to centrally carry diverse railway services, including FRMCS, signaling, SCADA, and video services. Slices with industry-leading flexible granularity from Mbps to Gbps are allocated on demand, providing 100% bandwidth assurance for mission-critical services and meeting diversified network requirements of different services.

• Flexible deployment: Huawei's solution leverages SRv6 technology to implement one-hop access from railway stations to core backbone networks. This capability enables automatic cross-domain connections for services and accelerates service provisioning within minutes. SRv6 also provides flexible optimization capabilities based on service applications to implement intelligent traffic steering.

• Intelligent O&M: The large number of railway sites complicates network O&M. Huawei's solution addresses this by using in-band flow measurement and network digital map technologies. Specifically, Huawei's solution enables multi-level path visibility for service networks, builds up network navigation capabilities, detects network quality in real time, and demarcates and locates faults in minutes. All of these traits ultimately take network O&M efficiency to a new level.

Looking ahead, Huawei will dive deeper into railway digitalization, fully leverage its technical prowess and extensive experience in digital transformation, and work with more customers and partners to explore and implement more innovative railway solutions. Doing so will accelerate digital transformation into smart railways.
