Wi-Fi 7 — also known as IEEE 802.11be Extremely High Throughput (EHT) — is the latest, upcoming Wi-Fi standard. While the 6 GHz frequency band has been supported since Wi-Fi 6E, performance improvements have been limited because Wi-Fi 6E is still based on Wi-Fi 6.
However, alongside the 6 GHz frequency band, Wi-Fi 7 introduces a variety of new technologies — such as 4096-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM), Multiple Resource Unit (MRU), and Multi-Link Operation (MLO) — that help to maximize the benefits of the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz frequency bands. This allows Wi-Fi 7 to provide higher data rates, lower latency, and higher reliability.
This white paper describes the overall development history of Wi-Fi, introduces key Wi-Fi 7 technologies, and outlines working principles in diverse applications. It also introduces Huawei's Wi-Fi 7 products.
