Balqa Applied University is a major public institution in Jordan, specializing in applied sciences, engineering, medicine, and technical education. With multiple campuses and thousands of students, BAU contributes significantly to national development through high-quality academic programs, research activities, and continuous educational innovation. Being one of Jordan’s leading technical and applied education institutions, it is expanding rapidly across multiple campuses. With the establishment of its new Faculty of Medicine, the university needed a high-performance network capable of supporting advanced academic environments. Students and faculty rely heavily on uninterrupted connectivity for hybrid classes, medical content, and communication across different facilities. To ensure the new building launched with modern digital infrastructure, BAU sought a solution that delivered strong performance, full Wi-Fi coverage, and a backbone capable of supporting long-term digital transformation.

Rising Network Demands Across a Multi-Campus University

Before the project, BAU faced major challenges in delivering stable and secure connectivity across its growing environment. The university operates across different geographical locations, making centralized management increasingly difficult. Limited Wi-Fi coverage and inconsistent performance impacted learning quality, while the need for stronger security highlighted the importance of adopting SD-WAN in the future. With the Faculty of Medicine preparing to open, the university urgently required a modern network that would eliminate coverage gaps, ensure high-speed access, and support reliable communication for students and staff.

A Network Designed for Next-Generation Learning

To support BAU’s digital transformation, Huawei deployed an integrated switching and Wi-Fi solution tailored specifically for the new Faculty of Medicine. The building, designed to accommodate growing student and faculty needs, required strong, stable, and high-speed connectivity from day one. Huawei’s switching products formed the backbone of the new network, enabling fast, reliable communication between classrooms, laboratories, administrative offices, and university systems.

Complementing the switching infrastructure, Huawei’s Wi-Fi solution provided full building-wide coverage, ensuring students and staff could access online platforms, hybrid classes, and digital resources seamlessly. The Wi-Fi design supported high-density environments, giving users a consistent, high-quality experience even during peak activity. Implemented during the building’s construction phase, the solution was deployed at full scale with direct collaboration between Huawei experts and the university’s internal IT and procurement teams. No custom integrations were required, demonstrating the solution’s compatibility and streamlined implementation.

In parallel with the campus-wide project, Huawei also delivered switching solutions across the entire university, strengthening security operations and reinforcing BAU's broader digital ecosystem. Together, these deployments laid the groundwork for future initiatives, including SD-WAN, storage systems, and an expanding smart campus network across all university sites.

Following the deployment, BAU experienced immediate improvements in network performance, stability, and user satisfaction. Students now benefit from high-speed Wi-Fi that supports hybrid learning without interruption. Faculty and administrative teams have reliable access to digital tools and communication systems, ensuring smoother operations and improved academic workflows. The powerful network foundation also enhances communication between departments and supports modern teaching methods throughout the Faculty of Medicine.

Future Outlook — Scaling the Smart Campus Network

Balqa Applied University plans to expand Huawei Wi-Fi across all buildings, introduce SD-WAN for secure inter-campus connectivity, and continue building toward a fully integrated smart campus. These developments support the university’s long-term digital vision and growing academic needs.
