[Barcelona, Spain, March 2, 2026] During MWC Barcelona 2026, Huawei hosted a forum themed "Advancing All Intelligence, Empowering the Future Power System." The event brought together leaders from global power companies, tech experts, and eco-partners to explore the transformative role of digital and intelligent technologies in the power sector. At the forum, Huawei, together with Meralco (Philippines) and SANXING Ningbo, unveiled an intelligent distribution solution (IDS) and announced a joint initiative to build a lighthouse showcase, leveraging digital and intelligent technologies to drive the development of future power systems.

David Sun opening the forum with a keynote speech
David Sun, CEO of Huawei's Electric Power Digitalization BU, outlined four key developments shaping the energy transition: green energy and diversity, resilient power grid, transparent distribution, and load electrification. He also emphasized the need to evolve policies and regulations so that grids can go from a dispatch-centric approach to one where dispatch and markets work in tandem. In this new landscape, he noted, communication, digitalization, and AI become core production systems, requiring enterprises to strengthen capabilities in digital transformation, cybersecurity, and sustainable development.
At the forum, David presented the White Paper on Communication Target Networks for the Future Power System, which introduces a pioneering architecture for a communication target network. This architecture features an intelligent and robust main network, integrated medium-voltage and transparent low-voltage networks, high-speed and secure connectivity, and an integrated space-ground system. The white paper also outlines key technological trends, from optical and wireless to carrier and satellite communications, and underscores the transformative value and achievements these technologies bring to the power system.
Huawei highlighted its focus on intelligence and digitalization, working with industry players and eco-partners to drive transformation in the power sector. The forum also featured insights from global industry leaders: Al'Louise van Deventer (Technology and Engineering General Manager of Eskom, South Africa) on future-ready digital practices; Momar Awa Sall (Transmission Grid Director, Senelec) on private wireless networks accelerating power modernization; Deniz COSKUN (Deputy General Manager of TEİAŞ, Türkiye) on restructuring communication networks for grid resilience; and Andy Liu (Overseas Solutions and Marketing Director, SANXING Ningbo) on the application of Huawei IDS.

Power distribution networks are rapidly evolving, from mechanized to automated, and now toward intelligent systems, driving technological and business model innovation. While this evolution creates new challenges for operations and management (O&M), it also unlocks strategic opportunities to improve grid reliability and resource allocation.
At the forum, Huawei, together with Meralco and SANXING Ningbo, unveiled the IDS. Built on a cloud-pipe-edge-pipe-device architecture, the solution delivers four core capabilities: reliable communication, edge computing, cloud-edge collaboration, and low-voltage transparency. It is designed to build a comprehensive intelligent low-voltage (400 V) distribution network with controllable line loss, visualized distribution rooms, and manageable renewable energy, transforming distribution networks from fragmented digital silos into open, sustainable, and integrated digital systems. The three parties also announced the launch of a lighthouse showcase initiative, delivering replicable and scalable best practices for digital and intelligent transformation to power companies worldwide.
Communication, digitalization, and AI are at the heart of future power systems. Huawei will continue to deepen R&D in digital and intelligent technologies, integrating industry insights and advanced intelligence into power production systems. In collaboration with global industry players and eco-partners, Huawei is committed to accelerating the transition of the power industry toward greater reliability, stronger security, and a low-carbon future.
