Whether it's supporting mobile payments or providing global market insights, every part of CDM's value chain runs on one thing—data. As the foundation of all data operations, storage isn't just important—it's critical. Because storage doesn't only have to act as a secure warehouse for information. It also has to allow real-time data access, to help unlock fresh business value. So, CDM realized that it needed to modernize its legacy storage infrastructure, to address three key roadblocks.
• A performance roadblock: The bank's existing storage solution lacked the speed and scalability needed for modern, data-intensive financial workloads, negatively impacting user experience and thwarting attempts to innovate.
• An evolution roadblock: The vendor of the bank's existing storage system ended its support, meaning that an upgrade simply wasn't possible, leading to significant operational and continuity risks.
• A resilience roadblock: The legacy active-passive data center setup operated like a single-engine system that was unable to ensure instant failover and true high availability.
In short, CDM had to tear down these roadblocks to move ahead. And, rather than a simple hardware refresh, it needed completely new, future-facing architecture that would support its medium- to long-term growth.
In partnership with Huawei, CDM transformed its core storage to create a stronger, more reliable, future-ready data backbone. Now, the bank's new solution is built from truly sustainable storage infrastructure, using two high-performance Huawei OceanStor Dorado 8000 all-flash systems—one deployed at the production center, the other at a disaster recovery (DR) site—to ensure uninterrupted operations and resilience.
The strength of this solution doesn't lie in having two separate systems, rather it unifies them into a single logical entity, transitioning from a traditional active-passive setup to active-active architecture. This allows the storage resources across both data centers to be pooled, giving CDM resilient, highly responsive infrastructure that's also capable of dynamic adjustment and optimized performance.
With the new system in place, CDM has experienced a comprehensive upgrade across its operations.
Superior performance opens up huge business potential: Each OceanStor Dorado 8000 system acts as a high-performance engine for financial data, delivering over 1 million input/output operations per second (IOPS) allied to extremely low latency. Tasks that once took hours—such as batch transactions and report analysis—are now completed in mere minutes, enabling the far faster decision-making that opens up new opportunities for business innovation.
Active-active architecture delivers solid reliability: Business resilience has been fundamentally strengthened. With active-active architecture, any failure at one site triggers automatic failover to the other without affecting the end users. This design ensures the uninterrupted availability of CDM's critical digital services around the clock.
Future-facing resilience and scalability: OceanStor Dorado all-flash storage uses SmartMatrix full-mesh architecture to ensure business reliability even in extreme situations, such as the failure of seven out of eight controllers. For system resilience, the platform supports both vertical scaling—by adding controllers or disk shelves—and horizontal expansion—through software features like network-attached storage (NAS)—while maintaining architectural consistency and high performance. Huawei's design also provides room for future evolution, allowing CDM to smoothly transition to three or four date center (3DC/4DC) configurations when needed, ensuring that its single investment supports multiple technology upgrades, protecting long-term value.
OceanStor Dorado all-flash storage lies behind CDM's high-performing and resilient digital services, proving a dependable and powerful data foundation. As Morocco's digital economy accelerates, this infrastructure will continue to seamlessly support innovation, ensuring that the bank is already equipped for the business challenges of tomorrow—today.
