How Chung-Ang University Built a Next-Generation Smart Campus with Huawei

As universities worldwide advance digital campus construction, building a digital and intelligent infrastructure with continuous evolution capability and achieving intelligent network operations and management have become shared industry challenges. Chung-Ang University in South Korea partnered with Huawei to upgrade its network infrastructure, establishing an efficient, secure, and sustainable digital campus.

South Korea — For over 100 years, Chung-Ang University (CAU) has stood as a pillar of higher education in Korea. Renowned as a Top 10 university (QS Rank 479) with nearly 40,000 students and a world-class reputation in theater, film, and photography, CAU required a digital infrastructure that matched its academic prestige.

Facing the challenges of an aging network and increasing digital demands, CAU partnered with Huawei to deploy the iMaster NCE-Campus solution. This collaboration has successfully transformed the Anseong Campus into a high-speed, intelligent, and secure environment, setting a new benchmark for smart campus networks.

The Challenge: Eliminating the "Shade Zones"

Before the upgrade, the Anseong Campus network was struggling to keep up with modern connectivity needs. The infrastructure faced several critical bottlenecks:

* Aging Infrastructure: Approximately 45% of the existing wireless equipment had been in use for over 10 years, relying on obsolete 802.11n/ac/ax standards.

The Solution: A Leap to CloudCampus 3.0

To realize the vision of an "Optimal Smart Campus," Huawei provided a comprehensive network overhaul centered on the iMaster NCE-Campus architecture. The project focused on performance, security, and intelligence:

1. Pervasive Wi-Fi 6 & 6E Connectivity
The project dramatically expanded wireless coverage, increasing the number of Access Points from 713 to 1,000. By deploying high-performance APs supporting Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, the university successfully eliminated coverage gaps and significantly boosted network speeds.

2. Intelligent Network Management
A key component of the solution was the implementation of iMaster NCE-Campus and CampusInsight. These AI-driven platforms allow IT administrators to manage the entire wired and wireless network through a unified dashboard, enabling proactive maintenance and intelligent troubleshooting. With NCE futuristic technology User Experience Assurance, faults locating time reduced by 90%.

The first phase of the Next-Generation Anseong Campus Network project has been a resounding success.

• User Experience: The upgrade has provided a stable, convenient Wi-Fi environment for thousands of students and graduate researchers.

• Future-Ready: With a foundational 10Gbps backbone and Wi-Fi 6 infrastructure, CAU is now equipped to support future innovations in education and ICT.

By choosing iMaster NCE-Campus, Chung-Ang University has not only modernized its infrastructure but has also laid a digital foundation for the coming years of academic excellence.
