A Fully Connected Airport – Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB)

Network Refresh Project is part of the Airport 4.0 digital framework, which encompasses infrastructure enhancement, capacity development and digital innovation to achieve terminal optimization, operational efficiency and to provide passengers with the ultimate airport experience. One of the key foundations within this digital framework is to have a robust airport network which enables the successful delivery of Airports 4.0 initiatives.

The network refresh project enables KLIA and KLIA2 now compatible with state-of-the-art technologies such as 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI). The new network will also have at least 10 times more capacity than previous network, port speed ranging from 10Gbps to 100Gbps at the core, with scalability capability up to 400Gbps.

Digital-led technology such as the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (ACDM) system will also help the airport collaborate more effectively with its airline partners through the sharing of real time information.

Enriching Passenger’s Airport Experience

The project is vital in reducing delays especially in network congestion and operations risks, and equips MAHB in having a preventive approach to unprecedented incidents, subsequently enriching passengers’ airport experience. This in a way can bring down the operating cost in terms of IT system operations and Maintenance at KLIA.

With the automation process and strong network capability, online check-in can reduce queues and congestion, mobile apps can provide updates on flight schedules and gate reassignment, self-baggage drops can reduce queues, passenger flows can be managed, biometric boarding procedures that use facial recognition will reduce boarding processing time and passenger flows can be managed to minimise congestion at all checkpoints and ensure passengers will have extra time to browse through the retail and F&B offering at our airports.

The initiative aims to enhance terminal optimisation, operational efficiency, revenue generation and regulatory compliance. The digital transformation is a manifestation of our brand promise to host joyful connections for all our stakeholders.

The network refresh project provides a solid foundation for the relations between different stakeholders, establishing better collaboration within the airport community, connecting all the stakeholders in one fully integrated digital ecosystem.
