To meet modern management requirements, CEB planned to centralize and modernize existing substation data centers and backup systems into an efficient and easily manageable environment. Huawei provided a complete data center infrastructure solution including DCS virtualization, servers, data center networking, and unified storage systems.
Ceylon Electricity Board faced three core challenges: First, segregated infrastructure, where the existing data center infrastructure was not centralized, using traditional server architecture and manual backup systems with independent substation operations and low resource utilization. Second, low management efficiency, lacking centralized management capabilities and unified operation and maintenance capabilities, with 60 substations operating in a decentralized model leading to high operational complexity and slow response times. Finally, poor system reliability, with server local disks and manual backup systems based on traditional architecture resulting in low overall system reliability and business interruption risks, failing to meet the power industry's strict requirements for "zero service loss."
With the rapid development of Sri Lanka's power industry, CEB needed a modern data center solution to support future smart grid construction, not only addressing current decentralization and reliability issues but also laying a solid foundation for future digital transformation.
Huawei provided the DCS Full-Stack Data Center Solution tailored to CEB's specific requirements, including eSphere Virtualization, FusionCube Servers, OceanStor Dorado 3000 storage, and Cloud Engine 6881 Switches.
Traditional data center architectures used physical servers and decentralized storage with only 20-30% resource utilization. Each substation was independently deployed, preventing resource sharing and unified management. Manual backup systems were not only inefficient but also posed data security risks, with fault recovery times lasting several hours.
The Huawei DCS Full-Stack Data Center Solution addressed customer pain points through the following innovative technologies:
All-Flash Architecture: All-Flash storage system for high performance and mission-critical application environment
Gateway-free SAN/NAS Integrated Active-Active Architecture: Providing high availability assurance for true business continuity
Multi-Controller Full Active-Active Design: Eliminating single points of failure for 7×24 business operation
Advanced Data Protection Features: Including high-density secure snapshots, synchronous/asynchronous DR replication, and QoS policy control
Based on the customer's power industry characteristics, Huawei provided deep customization design to ensure seamless integration with existing SCADA systems and smooth migration solutions to guarantee business continuity.
By deploying the Huawei DCS Full-Stack Data Center Solution, Ceylon Electricity Board achieved significant business value:
Enterprise IT System Benefits
System Unification: Unified virtualization architecture supporting interconnection of sixty substations with centralized resource management and scheduling
Worry-free O&M: Simplified operations and maintenance with problem localization in seconds, 100% improvement in operation and maintenance efficiency
Enhanced Security: Significantly improved system reliability with centralized and secure data backup capabilities achieving "zero service loss" for business
