[Shanghai, China, September 27, 2024] During HUAWEI CONNECT 2024, Huawei released the industry's first E2E fine-grain OTN (fgOTN) optical transmission product portfolio — Huawei OptiXtrans E6600/E9600 — which can help build ultra-broadband and reliable all-optical industry communication networks for industries such as energy and transportation.
Amid the development of various intelligent services, conventional SDH can no longer meet the requirements of industry communication networks. As such, more and more industries are upgrading and reconstructing their SDH networks. Taking the electric power industry as an example, in China, more than 8000 sets of SDH devices need to be upgraded every year. At the end of 2023, the International Telecommunication Union-Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) released the fgOTN standard, which is clearly defined as the next-generation technical standard to replace SDH. In addition, the sub-standards of fgOTN features, such as protection and clock synchronization, will be continuously improved this year.
At MWC Barcelona 2024, Huawei launched the industry's first product that supports the fgOTN standard — OptiXtrans E6600. Huawei has further enriched its product portfolio by launching the industry's first frame-shaped product that supports fgOTN — OptiXtrans E9600 — for core backbone transmission networks. The product delivers the industry's largest fgOTN cross-connect capacity and meets the requirements of SDH network upgrade and reconstruction at core nodes. In this way, the E2E fgOTN capabilities of production communication networks are supplemented from the core and aggregation layers to the access layer. This helps customers build an all-optical industry communication network in the intelligent era and provides solid and reliable communication assurance for key control services such as teleprotection, production management, and integrated data services.
This product portfolio has three advantages. First, it supports the fgOTN technology from the core layer to the access layer, and provides the highest level of integration and the most comprehensive service cross-connections in the industry. Second, it also supports SDH/fgOTN dual-mode tributary boards, which enables smooth switching from SDH to fgOTN services. In addition, it also supports 4-in-1 optical line boards with the industry's highest-precision OTDRs. Third, it supports multi-path hitless protection and ASON features, achieving 99.9999% reliability for E2E services.
Recently, Huawei's OptiXtrans E6600 series products won the Annual Optical Transport Award at ECOC 2024. The product has been verified by China Electric Power Research Institute and State Grid Shandong Electric Power Company. When the mainstream fiber current differential protection is configured in short-haul and long-haul mesh networking scenarios, the product meets the transmission standards of teleprotection services in terms of optical/electrical port service transmission, latency performance, channel isolation, and fault recovery.
Huawei's optical transmission products have won widespread acclaim within the energy and transportation sectors. Also, Huawei remains steadfast in its mission to empower customers with resilient and dependable optical communication networks, ensuring the secure and stable operation of diverse services.
