SC Synergy: Fail-Safe Storage with Growth Options

Happy customers since 2005: This is what sc synergy from the Rhine-Main region stands for. For medium-sized companies and resellers, the IT service provider’s around 20 employees shine in the areas of managed services, cloud services or infrastructure as a service (IaaS). Access to the outsourced data must be possible at any time and immediately - any failures would therefore be the worst case for the Bodenheim employees.
The business is flourishing and new customers are being added constantly: In recent years, sc synergy has recorded an average annual growth of 25 percent. A reason to be happy, but more customers means more data. The previous object storage solution therefore reached its limits, particularly in terms of performance - and the customers also noticed this.
The managed service provider urgently needed a storage solution that would meet modern data management and storage requirements and be scalable for future growth. “It is extremely important for us that our storage solution can grow flexibly and that we have a reliable partner to help us easily expand our storage in the coming years,” says Christian Reichert, Founder and Managing Director of sc synergy.
The company therefore decided to replace its previous storage system and migrate to Huawei’s OceanStor Pacific 9520 and OceanStor Dorado 5000 solutions. OceanStor Pacific offers scalability and supports various storage services such as file, block and object storage. It is ideal for environments with large volumes of data such as data lakes or analytics applications and thus meets the requirements of sc synergy. OceanStor Dorado, on the other hand, is a high-performance all-flash storage system used for business-critical applications such as ERP systems, databases and compute-intensive processes. Together, the two solutions fully meet the managed service provider’s storage requirements.
The interfaces were also of great importance when deciding on Huawei solutions, as processes such as invoicing are automated via the company’s management platform, for example. The OceanStor systems were easily integrated into the sc synergy Iaas platform, via which customers can book resources in self-service compute and storage.
The service provider has been relying on Huawei products since 2017. In the search for a suitable network solution, Huawei routers were used for the first time. And even back then, not only the hardware, but also the dedicated customer support scored points. After a successful test run, it was only natural to rely on the tech group when it came to storage. After all, offering highly available services means providing immediate support even in the event of a failure. "The support is simply great - there is a contact person on hand at all times, no matter how large or small the order is. This is not the case with every provider," says Christian Reichert.
The new solution has been in use since July 2023. Reichert’s first impression: “Performance is much better and updates also work smoothly - exactly as we had hoped.”
The capacity utilisation of the new storage is currently at 50 percent - however, as new projects and customers are already waiting for sc synergy, Reichert and his team plan to rely on Huawei’s services again next year and expand the solution with new storage nodes.
