The steel industry is a "ballast stone" for China's economy, playing a crucial role in stable industry growth. The innovations launched at the event are part of the efforts of Liuzhou Steel Group and Huawei to boost Guangxi's economic development and enable new forms of productivity for the steel industry. They facilitate the unique development model in which R&D outcomes from Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou are integrated in Guangxi and applied in ASEAN countries, and set a benchmark for the transformation towards high-end, intelligent, and green manufacturing.

Li Bin, Chairman of Liuzhou Steel Group, stated at the event that the Xuantie Steel Model is a key achievement of the Group's digital and intelligent transformation strategy. Pre-trained on Huawei's Pangu models, the Xuantie Steel Model focuses on three key areas: AI + people, AI + data, and AI + manufacturing. A 20+N scenario-based model system covering the six key areas of pre-smelting, steelmaking, steel rolling, logistics, environmental protection, and safety has been established.

Li emphasized that Liuzhou Steel Group will seize this opportunity to accelerate the transition from single-point intelligence to comprehensive intelligence. The Group will proactively serve as a leader in the industry value chain to support Guangxi's efforts to develop a modern industry system and promote AI applications in Southwestern China and ASEAN countries.

The launch event also unveiled the Liuzhou Steel AI Research and Innovation Center. Through this center, Liuzhou Steel Group will use the Xuantie Steel Model as the foundation and make its core capabilities available to ecosystem partners to create high-value industry applications. The Group also signed an agreement on deepened collaboration with Huawei.

Shen Min, Vice President of Liuzhou Steel Group, described the AI applications the Group developed. The 5G-powered intelligent molten iron transportation system realizes end-to-end intelligence. In the steelmaking process, 33 AI models have been deployed, including an intelligent scheduling model that improves collaboration between different processes and increases productivity by 8.5%. The AI models for basic oxygen furnaces and ladle argon blowing have improved product quality, reduced raw material consumption, and lowered the cost of crude steel production by 5 CNY (approx.0.73 USD). per metric ton.

Regarding intelligent refining, a solution that integrates mechanistic models, AI prediction, and parameter optimization is propelling automated steelmaking, and has reduced the comprehensive cost of steel by 2 CNY (approx.0.29 USD) per metric ton. Regarding plate and plywood assembly, AI algorithms have increased the yield of plates by 1% to 2% by optimizing production plans. AI has also enabled the automatic matching of over 90% of contracts, alleviating inventory pressure.
