[Shenzhen, China, July 31, 2023]In the China POL Market Report 2022 H2 recently released by IDC, a world-leading company for IT market research and consulting, Huawei ranks No.1 in China's passive optical LAN (POL) market for the year 2022. This is the fourth consecutive year in which Huawei has led the POL market in China.
According to IDC's report, Huawei's POL-based FTTO solution outperforms traditional solutions in terms of bandwidth, O&M management, and energy consumption, as well as reducing TCO. In the next five years, this solution will be widely used in various industries to form a solid foundation for enterprise service innovations.
IDC predicts that China's POL market will maintain a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.6% from 2020 to 2027, and will be worth CNY6.553 billion by 2027.
From the perspective of technologies, traditional campus networks face challenges in terms of the bandwidth and centralized management. Against this backdrop, POL networks have become the ideal choice for the next-generation campus networks, delivering higher bandwidths, simplifying the campus networks into two layers, facilitating O&M and scalability, supporting long-distance transmission, and reducing the carbon footprint.
With the promotion of low-carbon and energy-saving buildings, and the emergence of new enterprise services and Internet applications such as video streaming and gaming, POL solutions need to be energy-saving, convergent, and secure, as well as able to support high mobility and IoT services. These demands drive the POL industry chain to become increasingly mature.
At the same time, vendors are investing heavily in the R&D and promotion of POL technologies, and have released a series of white papers and construction guides together with industry partners. As a result of these efforts, more industry customers are becoming aware of the FTTO solution, with some already deploying the solution as an example for others to follow.
As a market leader, Huawei leverages the fifth-generation fixed network (F5G) technology and has delivered the F5G-based FTTO solution in a wide range of industries including education, healthcare, hospitality, and real estate. To date, the solution has been adopted by more than 6,000 enterprises around the world.
In 2023, Huawei also launched the industry's first 50G POL prototype, which can be deployed without replacing OLTs, the ODN, or ONUs, paving the way for the next-generation Wi-Fi 7 campus networks.
