[Barcelona, Spain, March 1, 2023] Huawei showcased its upgraded Engineering Simulation Solution at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023. Targeting the manufacturing sector, the comprehensive solution provides critical ICT infrastructure, including data center computing, storage, and switches. It delivers robust computing and innovative software and hardware to help manufacturers speed up product development.
Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) simulation is essential for research and design (R&D) optimization. High-Performance Computing (HPC) powers CAE with robust computing and speeds up development. However using CAE faces several challenges.
• Many data transfers: Processing tools for different simulation phases have different storage protocols. However, transferring vast amounts of data across protocols does not add any value.
• High concurrency: Unlike traditional transaction-based IT systems, CAE simulation requires high-concurrency access and computing.
• Complex scenarios: There are many different simulation workloads in a variety of disciplines, all having different system requirements. The simulation is inefficient and difficult to configure.
Manufacturing its own products, Huawei has an in-depth understanding of the crucial role simulation plays in R&D. The tech giant also has extensive experience working with automotive clients, who rely on vehicle crash tests, fluid dynamics, electromagnetism, and structural simulation during their manufacturing processes.
Liu Chao, CEO of Huawei Manufacturing Industry Digitalization Business Unit says, the diverse nature of the automotive industry means that simulation technologies must adapt to a wide range of solving algorithms and resource requirements. That's why Huawei provides a flexible scheduling system for CAE simulation. Users can manage many clusters with just one system, and drag and drop applications for more efficient cluster management. The system supports integrated design and computing, so data pre-processing, computing, and post-processing simulation can be completed using HPC without leaving the data lake.
Huawei also provides open hardware capabilities and high-bandwidth Remote Direct Memory Access over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) networking to build HPC networks with zero packet loss. This enables more efficient computing than InfiniBand. The high-density storage has 2.67 times the capacity density of other products. As for computing, mainstream industrial software can be integrated through transcoding.
Liu Chao, CEO of Huawei Manufacturing Industry Digitalization Business Unit showed the Smart Factory DemoThe Engineering Simulation Solution has several key advantages.
• Multi-protocol interworking: During simulation, pre-processing files are read directly, and data migration is not required.
• Innovative and open software and hardware: The Donau Scheduler coordinates many clusters to distribute jobs, balancing demands between peak and off-peak periods and improving resource utilization. The integration of design and computing helps increase efficiency as data is kept within the data lake. Furthermore, the lossless HPC network delivers low latency and high bandwidth.
• Handling complex workloads: OceanStor Pacific 9540 storage systems support high-concurrency and high-OPS operations. The read/write performance exceeds 30,000 OPS, and a single thread provides a bandwidth of 400 MB/s, improving the simulation performance.
Looking ahead, Huawei's Engineering Simulation Solution will continue delivering improved management and user experience for manufacturers, helping the sector along its digital journey. For more information, please visit: https://e.huawei.com/en/solutions/industries/manufacturing/cae
