In the Colmar region of eastern France, a utility and telecom operator dedicated to smart communications and digital services—Vialis—is quietly driving a network revolution. As the first operator in mainland France to deploy Fiber to the Room (FTTR), Vialis has successfully embarked on a new chapter in smart home services, enabled by Huawei's F5G-A all-optical network solution, transforming from traditional networks to future-ready connectivity.
Amid intensifying market competition, Vialis once faced mounting challenges: a surge in gigabit broadband users, and strong rivals dominating in key areas—bandwidth, terminal upgrades, Wi-Fi 6/Wi-Fi 7 support, bundled packages, and customer-retention incentives. Meanwhile, Vialis lagged behind with limited bandwidth, slow CPE upgrades, outdated terminal technology, and rigid contract offerings—steadily eroding its competitive edge.
The turning point came with the adoption of Huawei's XGS-PON and FTTR solution. To meet surging demands for ultra-high-speed broadband in homes and businesses, Vialis partnered with Huawei to roll out an XGS-PON and FTTR solution, delivering symmetrical 10 Gbps speeds and seamless whole-home Wi-Fi 7 coverage. This not only dramatically enhanced the user experience but also reinforced Vialis's competitive advantage in the regional broadband market.
Vialis believes that FTTR is the next-generation ONT, replacing the traditional ONT and separate AP to achieve a comprehensive Wi-Fi 7 upgrade. With FTTR, Vialis delivers gigabit-speed connectivity to every corner of the home while also enhancing ARPU by adding fiber as a value-added service (VAS). In the future, it can also offer more VASs such as home storage, IoT secure safes, and Wi-Fi sensing, truly embodying the philosophy that "what you buy is what you get."
The FTTR deployment process is highly efficient. User-friendly installations require no complex training and can be completed in a single visit, while flexible, wall-mounted designs ensure both safety and long-term stability. By collaborating with local installation partners, Vialis improved service quality while creating additional revenue opportunities for its ecosystem partners.
Market feedback has been swift and positive. Through television advertising and channel collaboration, Vialis significantly expanded its customer base within six months, while at the same reducing churn and driving strong demand for premium package upgrades. User bandwidth experiences were drastically improved, and brand competitiveness rose sharply.
"FTTR is not just a technology upgrade—it's a business model transformation," said Martial Neumuller, Vialis Network Manager. "With Huawei's support, we've not only outpaced the competition, but also secured our future."
Today, Vialis stands as both a leader in France's regional telecom market and a pioneer of the "All-Optical Future." From a single fiber to every room, the journey has just begun. Together with Huawei, Vialis will continue to innovate and build green, intelligent networks, ensuring that more communities benefit from digital services.
