At Japan's largest ICT exhibition, Interop Tokyo 2021, Huawei's OceanStor Pacific Storage won Best of Show Award Grand Prize in the Server & Storage category. Huawei's Next-Generation High-Performance Inter-DC Storage Network, better known as NoF+, won Best of Show Award Runners-up in the Cloud Computing (Infrastructure) category.
The exhibition's experts highlighted that Huawei OceanStor Pacific provides seamless multi-protocol interworking and uses enhanced NVMe over RoCE for high-speed data transmission, meeting core big data and high-performance computing (HPC) demands. The NoF+ Solution uses the enhanced NVMe over RoCE network protocol and combines three types of devices, that is, the next-gen OceanStor Dorado all-flash storage, CE6860-SAN/CE8850-SAN, and DC908, to achieve high reliability and low latency in the data center, as well as high-bandwidth and cost-effective transmission among data centers.
On winning the awards, Dr. Peter Zhou, President of Huawei IT Product Line remarked, "We are very pleased that our storage product has once again won Interop Tokyo awards. It is no secret that HPC is evolving towards data-intensive computing. With extensive technical know-how and industry practices, we have launched OceanStor Pacific, the next-generation storage for high-performance data analytics (HPDA). It has been widely used in scientific research institutions, universities, and enterprises in Asia Pacific and Europe, helping customers remove HPC bottlenecks while also accelerating the evolution from traditional HPC to HPDA. An essential part of the Huawei All-Flash Data Center Solution, the NoF+ Solution implements synchronous upgrade of both the storage network and all-flash media in a data center, and is key to building a future-proof, green, reliable, and intelligent all-flash data center. Until now, it has been widely adopted for the core service systems of various industries, such as finance, carrier, healthcare, and manufacturing."
Huawei OceanStor Pacific wins Grand Prize in the Server & Storage category
HPC is moving towards data-intensive computing, which means larger data volumes, higher reliability needs, and varying workloads. To better cope with these challenges, customers in the HPC industry need professional storage systems. Huawei next-gen OceanStor Pacific for HPDA features multi-protocol interworking, high-density design, and is oriented to hybrid workloads, helping organizations seamlessly handle industry upgrades and unlock data potential.
Among the technologies that helped the product win the award was the industry's first lossless protocol interworking technology. Allowing users to access the same file over multiple protocols, such as POSIX/MPI/NFS/CIFS/HDFS/S3, this ensures zero data copy throughout the entire service process, as well as higher process and storage efficiency.
Huawei OceanStor Pacific also supports multiple types of workloads; one storage system can process data from end to end by offering high bandwidth for large files and high IOPS for small files. To help customers reduce the storage TCO, the series features industry-leading high-density design. It includes high-density performance and high-density capacity models, which provide high bandwidth of 32 GB/s per U and large capacity of 24 disks per U, respectively.
Based on the all-flash data center and hyper-converged Ethernet, the NoF+ Solution is disrupting traditional dedicated storage networks through the joint innovation of the next-generation OceanStor Dorado All-Flash Storage and CloudEngine DC storage network switch. In addition, Huawei's NoF+ Solution is key to building a green and secure all-flash data center as the all-flash data center becomes an important initiative for enterprises' digital transformation and a green and sustainable global economy.
Huawei's all-flash data center solution combines OceanStor all-flash storage, OceanProtect data protection, NoF+ storage network, and DME full-lifecycle intelligent O&M, helping data centers achieve higher performance, higher security, lower O&M costs, and green, low-carbon operation.

Hugely improving storage reliability, performance, and usability
To ensure reliable storage, it's essential that failover is achieved within seconds; however, the standard Ethernet lacks the proactive fault detection and notification. The NoF+ combats this by combining storage systems and network switches to implement a sub-second fault response. In terms of performance, the solution changes the static watermark mode of conventional NoF solutions that fail to deliver high throughput. The solution also uses intelligent lossless algorithms to set up real-time watermarks to match the storage flow needs, thus predicting the service requirements on the network. As such, the solution achieves zero packet loss and zero jitter in high throughput scenarios. Furthermore, Huawei storage and network products work together to build a plug-and-play solution, which implements one-click capacity expansion and automatic management and enhances ease of use in future construction.
Implementing E2E data optimization in data centers
It's currently the industry's only solution to feature zero-packet-loss Ethernet, high bandwidth, low latency, and easy maintenance. It also facilitates the integration of storage, network, and computing resources for real-time data sharing, making it open and compatible.
Recently, Huawei has carried out joint innovation using the NoF+ Solution with some large financial and carrier enterprises, opening new doors for data infrastructure construction. Huawei is looking forward to establishing more partnerships in the future.
