As one of the largest and most diverse applications of smart ICT, campuses play an important role in people’s work and life. Leveraging new forms of connectivity, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and the internet of things, smart campus solutions address traditional campus challenges including complex management, poor service experience, inefficient use of energy, limited security, and high operational costs. Huawei’s Smart Campus solution accelerates digital transformation of campuses, fuels innovative development, and enhances service experience.
There is no single technology that can fit every Smart Campus transformation requirement and use case. Rather a diverse set of access technologies must meet the various needs of efficient centralized management, ultra bandwidth applications, IoT scalability, and indoor and outdoor applications. Huawei Smart Campus provides the flexibility to utilize multiple technologies holistically based on 3 levels of convergence and integrates device, access, and cloud technologies to enable edge-cloud synergy.
Devices such as Wi-Fi access points support multiple IoT technologies to allow the introduction of devices for various use cases without setting up overlay networks and help minimize cost and improve deployment efficiency. For access, options beyond Ethernet based technology like Passive Optical LAN and wireless are able to support more rich and complex campus deployment requirements while working together with existing connectivity. Finally, multiple technologies need to work together holistically with a unified management system for more proactive and efficient management of resources.
5G will further unlock more exciting use cases in the smart campus but will bring additional challenges including the need for seamless operations across campus business logics and management processes and tight integration between Telco Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) and existing enterprise management nodes. Huawei as the global leader in both 5G and enterprise solutions is in a unique position to fully unleash the potential of 5G and turn it into real enterprise productivity improvement.
HUAWEI CLOUD edge computing architecture based on Intelligent EdgeFabric (IEF) provides centralized management of masses of applications on the edge and enables data processing, analysis and decision making, as well as the intelligent implementation and centralized management of edge nodes. Intelligent video analysis, machine inference, and big data stream processing technologies developed for the cloud can be pushed to the edge to provide smooth real-time service capabilities while IEF on the cloud can be used to centrally manage containers on hundreds of thousands of edge computing gateways, deploy functions, modify configurations, update versions, perform monitoring, and analyze operating conditions. Edge devices are securely connected to the cloud platform, and application data can be securely transmitted to the cloud.
The Relationship, Open, Multi-Ecosystem, and Any-Connect (ROMA) platform has been incubated in Huawei's campus solution. ROMA breaks the boundaries between platform, cloud, network, and region, providing fully-connected digital services. Moreover, it integrates solutions based on data, messages, and services, and streamlines service control, application management, tenants, and certification between HUAWEI CLOUD and private cloud or existing platforms of enterprises. With the help of ROMA, more than 20 Huawei campus applications can be integrated within a few days. Over 90 integration scenarios are supported.
HUAWEI Smart Campus Enterprise Intelligence provides enterprise-level AI, video analysis, and big data cloud services to help partners build smart campuses in a more secure, convenient, and greener manner. With the impressive optimizations from IoT and AI technologies, smart campuses can deliver a more secure, convenient, and environmentally conscious campus experience complete with smart security protection that includes perimeter protection, video-based patrol, accurate access control based on facial recognition and more. In addition, visible, manageable, and controllable campus devices and public facilities deliver reliable smart energy savings based on data analysis, prediction, and optimization of key energy consumption points.
