Knowing that a dedicated and committed work force makes companies more competitive is not a too difficult concept to understand. The way to promote dedication and make it accepted by its employees – as it is the case in Huawei – is, however, a more difficult nut to crack. Huawei does it in part with the type of incentive performance system the company employs. Huawei is not a public company, and is in fact owned by the employees. Ren Zhengfei’s shares account for only 0.81% of the company’s total, and 121,269 employees hold the rest (according to latest Huawei statistics). As Mr. Ren puts it, he wants everyone to act like the boss.
Maintain a Strong Local Team
In the past 22 years of development in Thailand, Huawei has been holding the firm belief that technologies should be developed for creating greater social values. Through open collaboration with ecosystem partners, we keep the mission of Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand, and maintain a strong local team that is dedicated to creating lasting value for Thai society, enrich home life, and inspire innovation in organizations of all shapes and sizes for sustainable development.
As a responsible local citizen, until now, Huawei has over 2,800 employees and 86% of them are local employees. We have created around 8,500 job opportunities, and in 2020 alone we created more than 1250 job opportunities.
Meanwhile, as Thailand rapidly marches into digital transformation, we launched several digital talent cultivation projects in Thailand, to provide more opportunities for local ICT professionals and students. For example, we joined with the Ministry of Commerce to support the “Gen Z to be CEO project” and develop new generations of entrepreneurs in the digital era and enhance Thailand’s readiness, develop potential of international trade. Under this project, experts from Huawei have provided training for 9 Thai leading universities. In total, this series of training has benefited over 2,000 students. Meanwhile Huawei created a special session “Huawei Talk” for 5 universities, to share our history and business strategy to inspire and encourage Gen Z how the company overcame challenges and become the leading ICT Company as present. The students who pass the test will receive an e-Certificate and we will select a group of outstanding students to joining an internship for 2 month period.
Looking back at Huawei’s footprints in Thailand for the past 22 years, we’ve kept innovating to create value for our customers, to overcome the challenges with Thai society, and to support both economic growth and social progress around the world. We also took this opportunity to further accelerate digital transformation, working together with partners to support broader economic, social, and environmental goals for shared progress and prosperity.
