When digitization doesn’t have to mean disaster

2024.03.19

Digitization is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it equips organizations with the intelligence, automation, and insight required to optimize operations. On the other, as digitization catalyzes the exponential growth of data and compute power, the margin for error – and the stakes associated with a potential outage – grow ever higher.

With so many organizations now leaning so heavily on data, contingency that can keep up is a non-negotiable

According to Gartner, the complete loss of enterprise data assets would result in the collapse of enterprise service systems, ultimately leading to bankruptcy for approximately 60 percent of organizations unlucky enough to experience such an event.

As cross-industry digital transformation continues to proliferate at speed and scale, the chance of experiencing an outage is no longer a matter of if, but when. A 2022 report from the Uptime Institute revealed that 20 percent of organizations surveyed reported having experienced a severe outage in the past three years, a number that is only set to increase.

From ever-changing regulatory compliance, to ransomware, human error, and protection against an increasing number of natural (and manmade) disasters, it’s impossible to predict exactly when, or how, a data center will be impacted.

As a result, many organizations are – quite rightly – ramping up their disaster recovery (DR) plans. And with threats constantly evolving, new demands continue to arise when it comes to DR on the data center network.

Catering to these requirements, Huawei has developed its ultra-resilient, multi-DC network solution, providing businesses with the fault-tolerant, always-on services required to survive – and thrive – in this new digital landscape.

Released at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2024, the solution is tailored to the DR upgrades of enterprise data centers. Leveraging Huawei’s high-performance CloudEngine series switches alongside its iMaster NCE intelligent management and control platform, the solution provides:

Easy interconnection: Delivering seamless heterogenous interconnection best suited to a multi-vendor strategy, featuring open standards and mature interconnection with 20+ third party systems.

Intelligent O&M: Featuring one map of the entire network, the solution boasts a unified display of heterogeneous networks, as well as application-network collaboration and minute-level fault demarcation.

High reliability: Simulation and verification ensures 100 percent accuracy when it comes to any configuration changes, this is paired with three-level fast switchover via Huawei’s all-scenario iReliable solution.

Evolvable capability: Ultra-400GE broadband capable of meeting high-bandwidth demands with flexible access from GE-400GE to ensure smooth evolution.

When digitization doesn’t have to mean disaster

The construction of a multi-vendor heterogeneous network is key, as it can help shield a data center from the disadvantages associated with single-vendor networks. During heterogeneous DR construction, customers mainly focus on four points:

• Can heterogeneous DCs be properly interconnected?
• Will heterogeneous network construction bring O&M difficulties?
• Is the network stable and reliable?
• Does the new network support future evolution?

With Huawei’s ultra-resilient multi-DC network solution the answer to those questions is a resounding ‘yes’.

And with technology evolving at breakneck speed – and nearly half of all data center switch ports predicted to reach 400GE or higher by 2027 – Huawei’s utilization of 400GE ultra-broadband gives operators the peace of mind that their network will be able to handle the high-bandwidth requirements of not only today, but tomorrow too.

With so many organizations now leaning so heavily on data, contingency that can keep up is a non-negotiable. Businesses without a carefully constructed disaster recovery plan could be one emergency away from becoming another bleak statistic.
