[Shenzhen, China, March 21, 2022] World-renowned IT analysis company, Evaluator Group, recently released a technical evaluation report on Huawei OceanStor Dorado NAS storage. Based on actual environments, Evaluator Group's rigorous assessment concluded that Huawei OceanStor Dorado NAS systems were found to provide comprehensive set of Network Attached Storage features along with excellent performance and reliability required for enterprise application workloads.
Enterprises urgently need NAS systems due to an increase in applications creating and using file-based data. Electronic design automation (EDA), manufacturing, medical, operations and finance are some examples of applications that have increased need for file data processing. The requirements placed on NAS are increasingly demanding, posing challenges on storage functionality, performance, and reliability.
Evaluator Group verified the high performance of Huawei OceanStor Dorado NAS storage with regards to three types of NAS workloads: EDA design, OLTP database, and medical images. The test showed that the Huawei OceanStor Dorado NAS system could deliver high I/O rates with low latency for EDA and OLTP workloads and provide high throughput for the medical image workload. Leveraging the FlashLink intelligent algorithm and end-to-end NVMe protocol architecture. The innovative globally shared distributed file system eliminates controller bottlenecks and implements controller load balancing when clients are accessing the same file system.
Reliable data storage is important for service continuity. Storage stability and reliability are customers' key concerns. Evaluator Group tested the 5-level reliability techniques of Huawei OceanStor Dorado NAS storage, verifying that RAID-TP supports automated reconstruction and non-disruptive upgrades, and the industry's only dynamic reconstruction. In the event of a continuous disk failure, the number of member disks in a RAID group can be continuously adjusted to maintain data reliability and redundancy. In addition, OceanStor Dorado systems provide active-active NAS access and combine Huawei's SmartMatrix full-mesh architecture with data application and protection technologies. The systems also support active-active SMB and NFS file access without using independent NAS gateways.
After testing over 10 functions of OceanStor Dorado NAS storage, Evaluator Group verified OceanStor Dorado NAS capabilities in areas such as connectivity, data protection in the form of snapshots and NDMP support, highly available data access such as point-in-time system copies, roll back mechanisms to previous versions of files or file systems, remote replication for disaster tolerance, and antivirus integration. The tests also validated OceanStor Dorado's multi-protocol file sharing using SMB/CIFS and NFS, and quality of service (QoS).
Russ Fellows, an authoritative analyst at Evaluator Group, noted that: “OceanStor Dorado NAS systems were found to provide comprehensive set of NAS features along with excellent performance and reliability required for enterprise application workloads. Customers evaluating NAS storage systems should consider Huawei OceanStor Dorado systems.”
