Smart Education Summit Unites ASREN, JUNet and Huawei to Advance Digital and Intelligent Education Across the Region

[Amman, Jordan, November 30, 2025] The Smart Education Summit, jointly organized by the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN), the Jordanian Universities Network (JUNet), and Huawei, successfully convened education leaders, policy makers, national research and education networks (NRENs), and technology experts to discuss the future of digital and intelligent education in the Middle East and North Africa.

The event brought together distinguished speakers from regional institutions and global technology organizations to explore how advanced connectivity, cloud technologies, and artificial intelligence can empower universities, strengthen research collaboration, and support next-generation learning environments.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Yang Ming, General Manager of Huawei Jordan Office, expressed appreciation to participants and emphasized Huawei’s commitment to supporting national education strategies. He highlighted that Huawei is honored to collaborate with ASREN and JUNet to accelerate intelligent transformation in the education sector. By combining advanced technologies with strong regional partnerships, he noted, Huawei aims to build a future-ready education ecosystem that benefits students, teachers, and researchers across the Arab region.

Prof. Alaaldeen Al-Halhouli, Chairman of JUNet and The President of the German Jordanian University highlighted the importance of modern digital infrastructure for universities, noting that institutions today cannot grow without reliable, secure, and intelligent networks. He emphasized that JUNet’s cooperation with ASREN and Huawei demonstrates how joint initiatives can effectively support digital education, enhance research capabilities, and create new opportunities for academic collaboration.

Mr. Yousef Torman, Director General of ASREN, stressed the critical role of NRENs in driving regional integration and cooperation, as well as the importance of collaboration with Huawei as one of the leading ICT vendors in the region. This was followed by Prof. Saoussen Krichen, Director General of CCK, Tunisia, who shared valuable insights into accelerating intelligent higher education digital services and national digitalization strategies.

The next speaker, Dr. Issa Qiqieh, Director of Computer Center, Al Balqa Applied University (BAU), presented a success case. As the university prepared to open its new Faculty of Medicine building, it identified the need for a high-performance network to support advanced learning environments. Facing typical multi-campus challenges such as dispersed locations, limited Wi-Fi coverage, and the need for stronger security and centralized management, Huawei was selected as the technology partner for its proven performance, product quality, and robust campus solutions.

The summit continued with a series of expert-led sessions featuring digital transformation strategies, intelligent campus solutions, and successful cooperation models. Chen Yuanbo, Huawei Education CTO, introduced Digital training solutions, highlighting the AI Practice Lab and the broader AI talent cultivation program designed to equip students with future-ready skills. Moreover, Huawei presented the Smart Education 1+3 All-Scenario Solution, showcasing core advantages across digital training, smart classrooms, scientific research, and smart campus solutions.

AI Practice Lab

The AI Practice Lab is a dedicated, hands-on learning environment that seamlessly integrates theory with real-world application. It supports both conceptual instruction and practical training through specialized equipment such as the AI Training Box and the AI Smart Car. By working with real scenarios, real data, and real algorithms, students gain firsthand experience applying AI across multiple disciplines and industries. The lab enables institutions to embed AI deeply into teaching and research, accelerating the digital and intelligent transformation of education.

The event concluded with a high-level panel discussion bringing together experts from academia, research networks, and the technology sector. Panelists explored the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation, the importance of capacity building, and the long-term vision for smarter, more inclusive education in the region.

As the summit wrapped up, organizers and participants underscored the vital role of Huawei’s innovative solutions and technologies in accelerating education digitalization.
