Bangkok, Thailand, 25 June 2025 – Huawei has strengthened its commitment to Thailand's energy sector by partnering with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to organize the prestigious 2025 PEA &Huawei Summit, showcasing cutting-edge energy innovations and solutions. The landmark event featured the official launch of the "Intelligent Distribution Solution (IDS)," an advanced smart distribution system designed to guide modern electrical grid management through engineering technology and digital innovation, enabling power networks to transition fully into the intelligent era.
Mr. William Zhang, President of Enterprise Business at Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., emphasized the critical importance of electricity as fundamental infrastructure that impacts people's daily lives and economic development. "Huawei places tremendous importance on this sector, with our headquarters establishing a dedicated business unit specifically for developing energy solutions to address challenges and provide new approaches for the energy industry," Zhang stated.
Thailand remains one of Huawei's key markets, and the organization of the 2025 PEA & Huawei Summit reflects the company's commitment to working closely with partners while presenting technologies and innovations that genuinely address business challenges. "We aspire to work closely with PEA to integrate energy and digital technologies, matching the most suitable products and technologies with challenges in the electrical energy industry, and leveraging ICT innovations to deliver comprehensive solutions for optimal smart grids," Zhang added.
During this occasion, Huawei officially launched the Intelligent Distribution Solution (IDS) in collaboration with ecosystem partners, marking a significant milestone in the company's efforts to advance the global electricity sector into the digital age.
The IDS solution represents a collaboration between Huawei and partners to address three critical challenges facing modern power systems: high power loss in transmission networks, low stability of power distribution infrastructure, and increasing pressure on new energy load management. The solution leverages sophisticated cloud-pipe-edge-device architecture, enabling electrical organizations to evolve from fragmented single-point digitalization approaches to comprehensive, systematic digital transformation strategies.
Mr. Phongsakon Yutthakovit, Deputy Governor for Planning and Engineering at Provincial Electricity Authority, highlighted the significant challenges in the era of technological transformation, including the complexity of distribution systems increased by diverse organizations, multiple power generation sources, different interfaces, and the growing volume and complexity of data.
"Improving network visibility is key to managing these challenges, not merely implementing platforms and technologies, but comprehensively transforming processes and operations," Pongsak stated. "As a distribution system operator, PEA recognizes that automated data exchange is essential today due to the massive volume of data and frequency of changes in modern power systems. PEA has begun piloting this technology in certain areas to test whether integrated distribution system management visibility and real-time data management capabilities are effective and necessary for Thailand's energy transition."
The IDS technology has been implemented successfully within China. It enables the monitoring of distribution networks, real-time detection of the 10kV line status, and intelligent management of low-voltage distributed new energy. The solution combines HPLC and other new technologies. It enhances transparent perception and service digitalization in power transformer districts. The IDS has delivered positive initial test results in several countries outside China as well.
Moving forward, Huawei will continue to curate and share digital transformation methodologies with customers and partners, helping enhance digital foundations of electric power companies worldwide, speeding up intelligent development, and providing an attractive option for the global market.
