[Jakarta, Indonesia, April 15, 2026] PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (“KAI”), Indonesia’s national railway operator, PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (“SURGE”), and Huawei signed today a strategic tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to accelerate the adoption of 5G+AI technologies across Indonesia’s railway system. The collaboration aims to enhance railway safety, operational efficiency, and passenger experience.

KAI, SURGE, and Huawei Sign Strategic Tripartite MOU
Under the MOU, the three parties will jointly explore and deploy advanced solutions across three key areas:
1. ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Infrastructure Cooperation
Deploy high-reliability backbone networks, high-quality wireless coverage at stations and depots, and cloud-based solutions to ensure business continuity and flexible service expansion.
2. 5G FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System) Network and Applications
Provide industry-leading 5G FRMCS networks bearing advanced multimedia applications, enhancing railway safety, efficiency, and service quality. This includes pilot projects on the Rangkasbitung – Tanah Abang line focusing on level-crossing safety and intelligent dispatching.
3. AI-Powered Freight Car Detection
Apply AI video analysis to enable intelligent fault detection and automatic warnings for freight trains, improving turnover efficiency and reducing the need for manual inspections.
Bobby Rasyidin, CEO of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), commented: "KAI is committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology to improve railway safety and service quality. This collaboration with SURGE and Huawei will accelerate our digital transformation, benefiting hundreds of millions of passengers and freight customers across Indonesia."
Yune Marketatmo, President Director of SURGE, stated: "This tripartite collaboration marks a significant step forward in modernizing Indonesia’s railway system. By combining SURGE’s digital infrastructure expertise with Huawei’s cutting-edge technology and KAI’s operational leadership, we are bringing world-class 5G+AI solutions to Indonesia’s railways."
Raymond Zuo, CEO of Huawei Smart Rail BU, said: "Huawei is proud to support KAI and SURGE in this strategic initiative. Our 5G FRMCS solutions and AI-powered applications will help transform Indonesia’s railway operations, enabling real-time communication, intelligent dispatching, and predictive maintenance."
Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to work closely with KAI, SURGE, and other industry partners to drive ongoing innovation in areas such as intelligent train dispatching, predictive maintenance, integrated cloud‑edge platforms, and next‑generation railway communications. Together, we are committed to accelerating the digital and intelligent transformation of Indonesia’s transport sector, and to building a smarter, safer, and more efficient railway ecosystem for the nation.
