Established in 1983 to provide engineering and consulting services, working as a subsidiary of Turkey's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Eltemtek today has grown into one of the country's leading engineering, project management, and consultancy firms working in the energy industry. As such, it offers a wide range of products and solutions, including Information Technology (IT), power distribution, transmission, and mapping services, as well as corporate consulting, safety operations, and natural gas detection and inspection. Recognizing that long-term success requires both leadership and differentiation, the company brings to the table extensive industry experience, a firm commitment to quality, and an innovative approach.
Indeed, Eltemtek has been a reliable partner in the energy sector for 35 years, with a history of devising efficient systems and processes that are also environmentally responsible, and a commitment to investing heavily in Research and Development (R&D): an approach that has paid off.
The company successfully developed Aerial Malfunction Detection System (AMDS) software, for example, which focuses on new strategies for detecting faults in transmission lines. This system uses an assortment of aircraft — from drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to gyrocopters and helicopters — to capture still and video images of power transmission lines, inventories, and transformer centers, in order to detect existing or potential faults. But to accomplish this, Eltemtek needed a powerful server connected to the AMDS, one that could support the real-time processing and analytics of High Definition (HD) images and video.
The storage performance of its R&D center's two data centers had also become a bottleneck, holding back the efficient access to data that boosts research activities. The center needed a solution, but one that could be seamlessly integrated with legacy infrastructure, in order to maintain stable workflows and resolve storage reliability issues.
After evaluating a range of solutions to replace legacy storage infrastructure, Eltemtek's IT team concluded that Huawei's OceanStor Dorado All-Flash Storage Solution was the right fit. This solution combines the intelligence and efficiency of Huawei's Smart series software — such as SmartQoS and SmartDedup — with the extremely high reliability of its Hyper series, including HyperSnap and HyperCDP. This unique software combination delivers ultra-high performance, supporting the scale-out of 16 controllers, with Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPS) increasing linearly, in line with the number of controller enclosures. While this anticipates the performance needs of any future development, such significant overall performance advantages, combined with fully interconnected architecture that offers 99.9999% reliability, lays a robust foundation for business growth.
With OceanStor Dorado all-flash storage in place, Eltemtek turned to Atlas servers to make AMDS transmission line inspection possible. These servers offer real-time inference with high efficiency and low power consumption, critical for video and image analytics and Deep Learning (DL) training. Monitoring devices are now able to analyze images intelligently, detect malfunctions in real time, and quickly notify relevant operations staff. Meanwhile, OceanStor Dorado provides the fastest IOPS in the industry, along with the lowest latency, both of which are key to AMDS operations.
With Huawei's Atlas Servers powering the AMDS, the efficiency of power transmission line inspection has dramatically increased, with defect management markedly improved. The company can now make faster and better decisions in emergencies and even plan ahead, minimizing power outage disruptions for local residents and governments alike.
Fully committed to sustainability, Eltemtek has a long-term goal to minimize the environmental impact of its products and business operations. Its new data centers help further that goal, replacing traditional Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) with greener Solid-State Drives (SSDs). Switching to all-flash has also boosted the company's bottom line, bringing with it far lower power and cooling costs while increasing performance by a factor of 20 and boosting capacity by 50%.
"Just as we expected, Huawei has delivered a high-quality solution and provided us with round-the-clock support, meaning they really are our strategic partner," Koray Çetin, IT Director at Eltemtek, said. "Eltemtek appreciates this collaborative relationship with Huawei and looks forward to working together to meet future goals."
