FiberStar Builds the First Submarine-Terrestrial Synergy Network with Huawei's 400G and 800G

For submarine networks, Huawei proposed an 800G+ solution. With the high-spectrum-efficiency and high-performance submarine solution, the capacity of each fiber can reach 30T.
For terrestrial networks, Huawei proposed a 400G solution with 3D-Mesh architecture for high bandwidth and reliability.

Background

FiberStar was established in 2014 and has become one of the leading providers of fiber optic-based infrastructure services in Indonesia. The company offers open-access optical fiber infrastructure that supports high-speed digitalization, security, and large data capacity, as well as facilitates the integration of internet, IPTV, and enterprise private line services.

The company has a nationwide network and continues to expand its fiber-optic range in different cities in Indonesia. In addition to the national network, FiberStar also has a submarine network that connects Singapore to Indonesia.

Challenges and Customer's Requirements

FiberStar has ambitious plans for future business development, targeting sustained revenue growth of 100% over the next three years. This includes expanding coverage by 1.7 million households, providing differentiated solutions for B2B services to win more customers, and firmly advancing the transition to a Managed Service Provider (MSP) model.

But the wavelength utilization of existing submarine and terrestrial networks is very high, which cannot support future business development. Especially for the terrestrial network, just a few congested links can affect the entire network expansion.

Furthermore, due to fiber cuts, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions, high reliability is a must for the network.

Huawei Solution: 3D-Mesh 400G with E2E ASON

For submarine networks, Huawei proposed an 800G+ solution. With the high-spectrum-efficiency and high-performance submarine solution, the capacity of each fiber can reach 30T. This industry-leading solution ensures future expansion over the next 10+ years.

For terrestrial networks, Huawei proposed a 400G solution with 3D-Mesh architecture for high bandwidth and reliability.

The new high-speed backbone network includes the following key features:

• 3D-Mesh architecture: Establish a 3D parallel layer on congested links to share resources between planes.

• C120: Compared with industry's common C96 solution, Huawei C120 solution supports 120 x 50GHz spectrum width for each fiber.

• 400G per lambda: Each fiber has the capability to carry higher than 16T bandwidth.

• E2E diamond ASON: Diamond ASON supports 1+1+R protection and has the highest SLA.

• Submarine-terrestrial synergy: E2E network management, service provisioning and latency map between submarine and terrestrial networks.

Customer Benefits

• Compared with a total new network, a 3D-Mesh network only built a parallel plane on the congested links, achieving 50%+ of TTM reduction and TCO saving.

• C120 and 400G ensure 25%+ higher capacity than the industry average.

• In response to frequent fiber cuts and earthquakes, ASON has increased network reliability up to 99.999%.

• Submarine-terrestrial synergy network enables simple O&M, short TTM, and low TCO.
