[Shanghai, China, October 10, 2018] At HUAWEI CONNECT 2018, Huawei released the FusionPower@Li-ion Series Large-Scale Data Center Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and Distribution Solution based upon a reliable, intelligent lithium battery feature for global customers.
With the increasing demand for high-performance technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT), data centers will become larger and more complex. As the momentum increases for data centers, the power supply and distribution system requires a more stable and reliable UPS to ensure uninterrupted operations. Since a power supply and distribution system for a traditional large-scale data center is scattered, redundant, and occupies a large footprint, those traditional systems are highly dependent upon manual inspection with difficulty in locating faults. Huawei, however, quickly responds to market changes and customer needs with the latest release of the FusionPower@Li-ion Series Large-Scale Data Center Power Supply and Distribution Solution. In addition, a battery energy storage system supports lithium batteries to further improve UPS reliability.
Larger Capacity, Specific Design for Large-Scale Data Centers
From design through product Research and Development (R&D), the FusionPower@Li-ion battery series specifically meet the power supply and distribution requirements of large-scale data centers. The FusionPower@Li-ion series integrates input and output cabinets and the UPS, reducing redundant power distribution, and saving on footprint and installation labor hours. Full module redundancy design, no Single Point Of Failure (SPOF), Featured with iPower full link visualization, early warning of key component failures and advance shutdown of equipment in case of fire can all ensure reliable system operations and simplify Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities.
Intelligent Lithium Batteries Improve Reliability
The new intelligent lithium battery — SmartLi is a lithium battery energy storage system solution for the Huawei-developed UPS. Compared with traditional lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries have advantages such as high reliability, long service life, small footprint, and simple O&M. Huawei SmartLi has the industry-unique active current equalization technology and allows old and new battery cabinets to be used together. The circulating current of cabinets connected in parallel can be controlled to be less than 2 percent, significantly reducing capital expenditures (CAPEX). To meet the high battery reliability requirements of large-scale data centers, SmartLi enables the following functions: the safest lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) cell for a lithium battery is used; ensuring normal system operation and simpler O&M; the Battery Management System (BMS) safeguards the reliability of the lithium batteries layer-by-layer from a cell to a battery cabinet, and then to a battery cabinet parallel system.
Han Dong, the Director of Huawei Data Center Energy Marketing, said, “As the heart of a data center, the UPS and batteries directly affect normal operations of the data center.” Based on the current developments of data center infrastructure, Huawei’s release of the FusionPower@Li-ion series solution unveils a new chapter to advance both power supply and distribution in large-scale data centers. Huawei will continue to invest in R&D and innovation to provide customers with comprehensive, intelligent data center solutions, and to help customers quickly complete digital transformation.”
In recent years, Huawei has shown remarkable performance in the UPS market that has rapidly increased its global market share. Additionally, Huawei has become the preferred UPS supplier for core carriers in China for five consecutive years, thanks to Huawei’s continuous investments and R&D strength in this field. Furthermore, the Huawei Data Center Infrastructure Solution, as well as the UPS and Distribution Solution, have been widely implemented worldwide, across different business verticals such as government, carrier, ISP, transportation, and finance. As a strategy, Huawei strives to provide simple, efficient, and reliable solutions for global customers during their digital transformation.
Huawei is committed to working with customers in the long term and takes a future-oriented approach to drive enterprise digital transformation through the power of the platform.
