TTG and Huawei Work Together to Build Smart Cities in the Middle East

Empowering Lusail and Smart Campus with the FTTO+FTTM Solution

To further advance digital transformation in the Middle East, TTG and Huawei jointly developed a solution integrating campus-level FTTO and city-level FTTM. This solution redefines how smart infrastructure is built. TTG establishes an industry benchmark through two flagship projects, redefining intelligent campus ecosystems.

Founded in 2000, Traffic Tech Gulf (TTG) is an ISO-certified provider of integrated traffic management solutions. With the mission of becoming a key partner for safe operations of traffic systems in the Middle East, TTG provides customized requirements in traffic and parking management, smart city, security, and communication systems. Over the past two decades, TTG has become a leading provider in the Gulf region, accumulating service capabilities in professional fields such as core engineering, system integration, and project contracting. TTG's services cover designing, system integration, equipment supply, installation, commissioning, operation, and after-sales service.

To further advance digital transformation in the Middle East, TTG and Huawei jointly developed a solution integrating campus-level FTTO and city-level FTTM. This solution redefines how smart infrastructure is built. As an intelligent system integrator who has operated in the Gulf region for 25 years, TTG establishes an industry benchmark through two flagship projects, redefining intelligent campus ecosystems.

FTTM: Helping Lusail Build a New Global Smart City Benchmark

With a total land area of 38 square kilometers and a population of 200,000, Lusail is a flagship future-oriented city in Qatar that is focused on advancing smart operations and digital transformation. This new city, which hosted key games of the World Cup, poses three strict requirements on the city security network. First, the network must achieve an ultra-high reliability of 99.99% to ensure that major sports events can be smoothly broadcast. Second, thousands of nodes need to be deployed within 6 months. And third, network devices should be installed discreetly to preserve the city's aesthetic integrity.

To meet these requirements, TTG chose Huawei's FTTM solution, which features three innovations that overcome key industry bottlenecks:

• Reliable connectivity: The solution provides a unique multi-point fault protection mechanism, which ensures zero service interruption. Industry-leading Class D optical modules provide 40 km ultra-long-distance coverage.

• Reduced space usage: The industry-leading outdoor PC500 integrates power distribution devices, adapters, and network devices, reducing the space usage by 60%. The passive optical splitting architecture conceals 90% of network nodes, which seamlessly blend into the urban surroundings.

• Intelligent O&M: The eSight platform simplifies delivery and improves efficiency, shortening the delivery period of thousands of nodes by 40%. The fault locating time is reduced from hours to minutes.

FTTO: Building a Sustainable Campus for the AI Era Based on Fiber-in Copper-out

As a market leader, TTG provides an integrated solution from management to operations. Committed to green and sustainable development, TTG attaches great importance to digital and intelligent transformation for building smart office campuses. TTG's new office campus network needs to carry services of 15+ departments, involving finance, human resources, marketing, design, and development, as well as video security and protection services. On top of that, the network needs to cover a two-story office building with 150+ office seats and 20+ conference rooms. All of this requires high bandwidth. Specifically, the network needs to offer 10G to the room and 1000 Mbit/s to the desktop, and be smoothly upgraded to 100 Gbit/s in the future.

TTG selects Huawei's FTTO solution for its energy saving, sustainable development, and smooth evolution benefits. Throughout its 30 years in the optical field, Huawei has remained committed to providing customers with outstanding optimal optical access network solutions. The FTTO solution provides a revolutionary architecture that replaces active switches at the aggregation layer with passive optical splitters. This simplifies the network from three layers to two and changes point-to-point transmission to point-to-multipoint, creating an industry-leading campus network for TTG.

• Simplified architecture: The network architecture is simplified from three layers to two by replacing copper cables with optical fibers. This facilitates deployment and reduces overall costs by 30%.

• Green and energy-saving: Passive devices replace active ones, and ELV equipment rooms are not required. This means that there is no need for air conditioners or fire extinguishers. The energy consumption of the entire network is reduced by 30% compared to that of traditional networks.

• One fiber for multiple services: One fiber can carry all services, including high-speed Internet access, Wi-Fi, POTS, HD video, and CCTV.

• Higher bandwidth: The solution enables 10G to the room and 1000 Mbit/s to the desktop, supporting smooth evolution to 100G. Once deployed, optical fibers have a service life up to 30 years.

Abdel Rahman Al Khateeb, chief executive of TTG, said that the cooperation with Huawei is a value creation process. From the CCTV project in Lusail to the all-optical reconstruction of the smart campus in Qatar, TTG and Huawei are reshaping the digital foundation in the Middle East through the technological revolution of "Fiber-in Copper-out." The two parties will continue to deepen their innovative cooperation in smart transportation, smart campus, and smart city, and work together to promote the "Vision 2030" in the Middle East, with the goal of building a more intelligent world through fiber.

The FTTM solution helps build reliable city security networks, and the FTTO solution helps build smart campuses. With the two advanced solutions, TTG and Huawei are advancing the intelligent and digital transformation in the Middle East, using fiber-optic networks to illuminate the path toward a smart future.
