Huawei Launches the Industry’s First Cloud-Managed All-Optical Converged Campus Solution

Oct 17, 2018

[Shanghai, China, October 17, 2018] During HUAWEI CONNECT 2018, Huawei officially launched the industry’s first cloud-managed all-optical converged campus solution. This solution answers the urgent requirements of enterprise digital transformation, accelerates the transformation process, and opens a new digital era by applying simplified network architecture, cloud-based O&M, and AI intelligent analysis technologies to improve enterprise campus network deployment and O&M efficiency.

Huawei launches the industry's first cloud-managed Agile POL solution

With the development of cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data, public and private clouds have become the new norm for information and communications technology (ICT) system construction. All industries are building cloud data centers on a large scale to improve data sharing functionality, data mobility, and security. The cloudification of services places higher requirements on the bandwidth and latency of campus networks. At the same time, the rapid growth in the number of IoT devices poses new challenges to the flexibility of network architecture. These and other requirements are making networks increasingly complex, yet campus networks need to provide ultra-high performance, simplicity, flexibility, and ease of management to meet the requirements without dramatically increasing costs.

To help deal with this situation, Huawei launched the cloud-managed all-optical converged campus network solution during the conference. This solution has three core values:

  • Cloud-based management reduces the Operating Expense (OPEX) of the entire network. This solution supports cloud-based deployment and is free of configuration for service rollout, which improves deployment efficiency by 80 percent. In addition, cloud-based proactive Operation and Maintenance (O&M) reduces troubleshooting time by 90 percent and OPEX of the entire network by 60 percent.
  • Service convergence reduces network construction costs. The combination of Internet Protocol and Passive Optical Network (IP+PON) creates an all-optical architecture that enables one fiber to carry multiple services. This architecture adapts to all scenarios, reducing the overall network construction cost by more than 50 percent.
  • The architecture is flexible and future-oriented. Distributed Optical Network Units (ONUs) can be flexibly deployed and expanded on demand. With light as the communication medium, the bandwidth can be upgraded without replacing the medium. This smooth and sustainable evolution protects customers’ investment.
  • At the conference, Zhang Xiaoliang, Vice President of Huawei Access Network Product Line, said that all-optical campus network infrastructure is an inevitable trend in the digital era. Huawei’s cloud-managed all-optical converged campus network solution implements cloud-based management of the traditional all-optical converged campus solution. This cloud advantage further simplifies network deployment, improves O&M efficiency, reduces O&M cost, promotes the popularization of all-optical campus networks in all industries, and accelerates digital transformation around the world.

Huawei has ranked No. 1 in the global PON market for 10 consecutive years. With deep technical experience in this field, Huawei has continued to optimize the Agile POL all-optical converged campus solution to meet a wide variety of enterprise requirements. So far, Huawei has applied this solution to more than 300 key customers in more than 100 countries on four continents. The addition of cloud-managed capabilities will make this technology even more appealing, as Huawei continues to work with partners to promote the global development of all-optical converged campus networks.

Huawei is committed to working with enterprise customers in the long term and takes a future-oriented approach to drive enterprise digital transformation through the power of the platform. So far, 211 of the Fortune Global 500 companies (including 48 Fortune Global 100 companies) have selected Huawei as their digital transformation partner.
