  • Huawei Cloud Computing Assists Dongfeng Communications Achieve Service Transformation

Desktop cloud has taken a solid step forward as our company’s cloud computing starting point. We are now planning to promote a cloud model in Dongfeng Experimental Primary School and Zhang Wan Hospital. After the desktop cloud, we are also planning to construct a large data center to provide enterprise cloud services to group companies on the desktop cloud’s infrastructure. In the future, our company will rely on the IDC cloud so that we can continue walking the cloud road!

Background

A subsidiary of Dongfeng Motors, one of China’s four big vehicle manufacturers, Dongfeng Communications Technology Company Ltd. had it’s origins as a car manufacturing plant’s telecommunications department in 1969. Dongfeng Communications now has an extensive enterprise communications private network in China with more than 100,000 users, including providing a wide range of connectivity services from almost 300 companies.

Challenges

Within Dongfeng Motors, each of 20 subsidiaries had its own network, information system, and office work system. Because these systems were not interconnected, personnel on business trips had difficulty connecting to essential resources. Overall, the company lacked an integrated O&M method, and system maintenance efficiency was limited.Dongfeng Motors has tens of thousands of workers, including call center agents and service center agents, who use a variety of Office Automation (OA) services. These services relied on large numbers of PCs, and the company had many information security leaks.

Solution

Huawei deployed an integrated cloud data center to implement a pilot OA desktop system for service locations and call centers at Dongfeng Communications. This system uses cloud computing to provide users with virtual desktops on low-cost terminals — a desktop cloud. By centralizing all computing resources in the cloud, the system achieves integrated management of services.

Huawei’s desktop cloud solution is mature and widely used, especially at China’s three major telecom operators and other major companies. Huawei has more than 30 local service branches across China, as well as many locations around the world, and these branches provide local delivery and professional maintenance services for solutions such as the desktop cloud.

Benefits

The cloud desktop’s integrated support for multiple scenarios enabled Huawei to adapt the solution to meet varied needs of Dongfeng Motors. The solution’s centralized O&M greatly improved overall efficiency so that IT personnel can now respond to issues faster.

The solution also resolved problems with data leaks by providing an end-to-end security implementation. All user data is now centrally stored in the data center and goes through terminal access authentication, encryption, transmission, and other security mechanisms to ensure that the company’s research institute and other organizations maintain information security.

Dongfeng Communications’ pilot desktop deployment is the first step in the company’s cloud strategy. Dongfeng Communications Director Zhang Zhiqiang commented, “Desktop cloud has taken a solid step forward as our company's cloud computing starting point. We are now planning to promote an experimental cloud model in Dongfeng Experimental Primary School and Zhang Wan Hospital. After the desktop cloud, we are also planning to construct a large data center to provide enterprise cloud services to group companies on the desktop cloud infrastructure.”
