How Do Huawei ICT Academies Make a Global Impact?

2020-04-08

The current pandemic is disrupting people's lives and posing a very real threat to their health. Requiring citizens to quarantine at home, reducing social activities and events, and temporarily closing schools are just some of the countermeasures that governments around the world have implemented to combat the virus. Indeed, according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), 165 countries and regions have suspended classes as of March 25, 2020, affecting more than 1.5 billion young people — approximately 87% of students worldwide. UNESCO has initiated the Global Education Coalition to support countries in scaling up distance learning, to reach children and youth most at risk.

In the face of this new challenge, we must all stand together as a community with a shared future — this is needed now more than ever. As part of this wider community, Huawei has always felt its social responsibility, to foster technological innovation and digital inclusion. In response to the outbreak, Huawei is launching the Learning Never Stops program in collaboration with Huawei ICT Academies around the world. With this program, Huawei aims to use its knowledge and technology to build a global learning community and make education accessible for all.

Huawei's Learning Never Stops program will provide high-quality resources, build open platforms, and offer financial support. The platform is designed to offer end-to-end solutions, from providing teaching, training, and examinations, to communication and resource sharing. Huawei will fully support its ICT Academies, to promote and apply online learning worldwide, allowing students to study from home.

Offering equal and high-quality education opportunities is a key focus of Huawei's TECH4ALL initiative. Working with partners, Huawei is committed to providing education opportunities for people from all regions and backgrounds through ICT innovation. With traditional school education suspended due to the pandemic, remote learning is undergoing unprecedented development and receiving remarkable support. Data-driven intelligent education will be a key future trend. Therefore, online education needs to become more intelligent and diversified, while traditional offline education should develop towards digitization and intelligence.

Huawei will work with the ecosystem to bridge the digital divide through technical capabilities such as cloud, AI, and 5G, offering more equal access to knowledge and skills, and enabling more people to unleash their potential. This way, in turn, people will be able to enjoy a greater selection of job opportunities, enhance their overall living standards, and contribute more to society.
