Lenzerheide Bergbahnen Modernizes Network Infrastructure for Reliable Winter Sports Operations
Enterprise products, solutions & services
The Swiss ski resort of Lenzerheide has been delighting winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers for decades. The ski resort is operated by Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG, which is dealing with growing demands on its IT infrastructure. One example: “The maintenance windows between the winter and summer seasons are getting shorter, which makes the work for our IT team increasingly demanding,” explains Christian Wyrsch, Head of Sales and Digitalization and Deputy CEO of Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG. The energy consumption of the IT network also plays an important role these days – to save electricity costs and become more sustainable. The company was therefore faced with the task of renewing its ageing IP network comprehensively. “Our challenge was to ensure efficient management and a reliable infrastructure that maintains operations behind the scenes – from the vehicle fleet to the snowmaking system,” says Wyrsch.
In collaboration with Ceruno AG, a Huawei partner and expert in tailored IT solutions, the ski resort operator identified the requirements and planned the modernization project. Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG decided to use Huawei Wi-Fi 7 access points and CloudCampus switches. Additionally, they chose Huawei's iMaster NCE Campus as the management solution. The cloud-based platform enables centralized management of the entire network, for both wired and wireless connections. " Together with our partner Ceruno AG and Huawei, we successfully implemented the modernization. The collaboration with both was excellent – professional, efficient, and solution-oriented throughout the project," says Wyrsch.
Thanks to the network management with iMaster NCE, Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG maintains full visibility over all essential infrastructure components – from heating systems to cable cars and snow guns. The cloud-based platform adapts dynamically to evolving needs and simplifies real-time monitoring and configuration, making troubleshooting faster and more intuitive. "Thanks to proactive maintenance and quicker issue resolution, we minimize downtime, reduce costs, and boost the overall reliability of our facilities," explains Wyrsch. Zero Touch Deployment allows new devices and services to be activated automatically – accelerating rollouts and simplifying management. Energy-saving switches and access points, along with intelligent analytics, lead to reduced energy consumption, bringing both environmental and financial benefits. “By combining centralized management with cost-efficient hardware, Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG benefits from a significantly lower total cost of ownership,” says Dominic Mettler, Network Architect & Solutions Manager at Huawei Switzerland. “The simplified operations and reduced capital expenditure make the solution attractive not only technologically, but also from a financial perspective.”
Optimized connectivity ensures reliable networking of all locations, from the valley to the mountain stations. With support for modern standards like Wi-Fi 7 and continuous software updates, the network remains stable and future-proof. The ski resort's gastronomy also benefits from the improved IT infrastructure, ensuring smoother operation of cash register systems. Displays and screens contribute to informing guests and enhancing their leisure experience. "The investment in Huawei technology has clearly paid off – streamlined management, faster configuration changes, and better monitoring make our operations more efficient and future-ready. With this infrastructure in place, Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG is well equipped to scale and innovate – supported by trusted partners Ceruno and Huawei," says Wyrsch.
