Electric power companies have a huge amount of optical fibers, sites, and data center resources. These resources can be used to develop non-electrical services, such as power bandwidth operations and DC leasing.
Against the backdrop of carbon neutrality, enterprises need new development models. Currently, enterprises are facing problems such as rising electricity costs, frequent power supply restrictions, dual energy consumption controls, dual carbon emission controls, and declining product competitiveness due to carbon tariffs.

Solutions
The rapid development of fiber networks brings new opportunities for electric power companies to expand their services. The National Broadband Development Plan and Universal Broadband Service require electric power companies to build fiber infrastructure. Service development poses higher requirements on networks, such as user management, fast service deployment, high network reliability, high bandwidth, simplified O&M, and high scalability. The cloud WAN IP bearer network aims to carry key services such as FTTH and VPN leased lines. Advanced technologies such as SDN, SRv6, FlexE, BRAS, and CGNAT are used to provide customers with flexible bearer, deterministic SLA, and intelligent O&M.
So far, over 170 countries have released broadband plans or fiber strategies. Driven by AI strategies, interconnection bandwidth between DCs is increasing at a tremendous rate, placing huge demand on networks. Power companies can leverage their considerable advantages in resources such as fiber, substations, and towers to lease out private lines at low network construction costs. This can revitalize underutilized assets such as power optical cable and equipment rooms, and increase the business revenue.
The broadband market is booming. Currently, 170+ countries have released broadband plans or fiberization strategies. Many electric power companies are building and operating, or co-constructing and sharing home broadband networks. In this way, they can use surplus power grid resources to quickly build networks and develop home broadband services at a low cost, revitalize underutilized assets such as power fibers and equipment rooms, and increase the business revenue.
