  • ITpoint Systems AG: Developing a Dedicated Backup for Specific Workloads with Huawei OceanProtect Storage

ITpoint Systems AG (ITpoint for short), headquartered in Rotkreuz, is a Swiss provider of managed services. Founded in 2002, ITpoint offers more than 300 customers tailor-made IT environments for planning, implementation, and operation. As a Managed Service Provider (MSP), ITpoint tirelessly strives to improve service quality through technological innovation.

Background

As ITpoint continued to expand its services, the pressure on its IT system was steadily increasing. In particular, the existing backup system was no longer sufficient to manage the ever-growing volume of data and the increasingly complex security threats. In an increasingly digitized business environment where data security was critical, ITpoint faced the challenge of developing a robust and specialized backup system for specific workloads. The goal was to ensure maximum data security without replacing the existing systems but rather by supplementing them.

Backup for specific workloads

To maximize the protection of sensitive data, a new specialized backup system has been implemented for specific workloads. This system is designed to activate quickly in the event of a failure or disaster to minimize data loss. The implementation included the selection of advanced technologies specifically tailored to the security needs of the MSP.

Ensured intercompatibility

A key aspect of the strategy was ensuring the intercompatibility of the new system with the existing backup setup. The additional backup system works seamlessly with the existing infrastructure without replacing it. This solution allows for the advantage of both systems, thereby creating a more comprehensive layer of protection.

Innovative system design

This approach involved an innovative system design that differs significantly from the existing solution. New technologies have been integrated, allowing ITpoint to create a completely independent system. This not only enhanced the robustness of the company's data management, but also set new standards in how they approach data resilience.

Cost optimization

Another key factor in developing the new system was cost optimization. With a focus on the efficient use of resources and long-term cost savings, ITpoint required an economically viable solution. This enabled the company to operate sustainably, both technically and financially.

Fast recovery times

Finally, ITpoint prioritized fast and efficient recovery times in the new system. In the event of data loss, data can now be restored quickly, minimizing downtime and ensuring uninterrupted business operations.

By implementing this comprehensive strategy, ITpoint has significantly strengthened its data resilience, making itself well-equipped for future challenges.

Dario Furigo, Team Leader Storage & Virtualization at ITpoint, was pleased with the collaboration with Huawei: "The OceanProtect system offers a robust and powerful architecture that integrates seamlessly and intuitively into our existing cloud infrastructure. Technically, I'm impressed with its performance, particularly its deduplication capability (currently 11:1), which enables efficient data storage. In operation, the system stands out for its high stability and ease of use. Additionally, Huawei provides excellent support, further simplifying operations and ensuring that any problems can be resolved quickly and effectively."
