The semi-annual meeting of Huawei’s Digital Government Advisory Board took place in a virtual format that we have recorded and share with you. Our panelists addressed government learnings during the pandemic and how to move forward using ICT and how smart city hyper localization is helping communities in Europe to continue their daily life. We have separated the formal meeting into five shorter and more focused videos and we warmly invite you to share the learnings of the Advisory Board.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting restrictions on movement have forced us all to look at the way in which we live and work. Governments in particular have struggled to shift from their traditional, office-based models for dealing with both clients and employees, but rapidly discovered that the change to remote working and remote service delivery offered new opportunities and benefits. And of course also presented new problems and challenges. In particular, ICT has been shown to enable the governance and action plans necessary to strengthen the capacity of essential systems. And in the crisis response, new applications and technology innovations have proven to help with the early detection, containment and quick response during the public health events.
With the increase of population within urban areas, cities officials must tackle complex challenges related to urban sprawl, traffic congestion, housing shortage, air quality and more. Indeed, sustainability has become a key aspect in cities’ development and governance is increasingly constraint by environmental, social and economic imperatives. New technologies such as AI, IoT and 5G are opening unique opportunities for citizens to have direct input into their city’s organization by providing feedback.
The smart city movement has become the “umbrella” under which all those technologies come together with the aim to improve how cities are developed and managed, for this reason we will discuss with our partners the core components that constitute the smart city “cookbook”, understand the importance of integrating the theoretical and practical aspects that will helps us to realize the vision that we have of the smart city. Moreover, we will discuss the approach used in Amsterdam, and learn how the city is fostering innovation in mobility, safety & security, health & sports, smart building & city and inclusivity.
