Dr. Muhammad Alfagih Hospital Forges a New Foundation for Smart Healthcare with Huawei Xinghe AI Campus Network

Huawei Xinghe AI Campus Network gives Dr. Muhammad Alfagih Hospital a fast, reliable and secure digital foundation for uninterrupted smart healthcare and future medical innovation in Saudi Arabia.

Customer Background

Established in Riyadh to keep pace with the rapid development of health services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and globally, Dr. Muhammad Alfagih Hospital (DMFH) stands as a premier regional medical model.

Operating under the strategic positioning of a “Teaching Hospital + International Medical Center,” DMFH features approximately 350 beds and more than 192 specialized outpatient clinics, providing comprehensive diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

Driven by its vision to gain public trust and its mission to care for patients and their families with empathy and respect, DMFH actively cultivates medical talent, advances scientific research, and contributes to the digital healthcare ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030.

As the hospital accelerated its transformation toward smart healthcare, digital technologies became increasingly embedded in clinical diagnosis, patient care, hospital operations, and medical research. This placed new demands on the underlying network infrastructure and highlighted the need for higher bandwidth, lower latency, stronger reliability, and enhanced security.

Challenges: Growing Digital Healthcare Demands and the Limitations of Legacy Infrastructure

As DMFH expanded its digital healthcare capabilities, its existing network infrastructure began to face several critical challenges.

Mobile clinical services required healthcare professionals to remain continuously connected as they moved throughout the hospital. However, traditional Wi-Fi handovers could cause brief packet loss and increased latency when nurses used PDAs during mobile rounds or doctors accessed Electronic Medical Records (EMR) through wireless carts, affecting the efficiency of clinical workflows.

At the same time, increasingly data-intensive healthcare applications placed greater pressure on network performance. High-definition CT and MRI imaging, AI-assisted diagnostics, and 4K/8K remote consultations required significantly higher bandwidth and lower latency, while slow retrieval of large medical imaging files could delay clinical analysis and decision-making.

The rapid growth of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices presented another challenge. Infusion monitors, smart temperature patches, medical robots, and other connected devices increased the complexity of network deployment and management while expanding the potential network attack surface.

Protecting sensitive healthcare data was equally critical. With patient and medical information subject to stringent data protection and cybersecurity requirements in Saudi Arabia, DMFH needed stronger network security capabilities to safeguard critical information and strengthen protection against threats such as ransomware and Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attacks.

DMFH therefore needed a modern network capable of supporting high-bandwidth clinical applications, uninterrupted mobility, growing numbers of connected medical devices, and stringent requirements for security and reliability.

Huawei Solution: A High-Quality Network for Smart Healthcare

Following comprehensive design validation and expert consultation, DMFH selected Huawei to deploy the Xinghe AI High-Quality Hospital Campus Network Solution. The solution establishes an intelligent digital foundation for the hospital centered on four key pillars: ultimate quality, seamless integration, proactive security, and unwavering reliability.

Ultimate Quality: Zero-roaming Wi-Fi 7 coverage in ward areas helps maintain uninterrupted connectivity as healthcare professionals move between locations, supporting mobile rounds and other wireless clinical services. Passive Ethernet and all-optical technologies provide ultra-broadband 10G capabilities, enabling rapid medical image retrieval while supporting flexible future network expansion.

Seamless Integration: A unified network architecture supports smooth IT/OT integration and continued expansion as new healthcare applications and connected devices are introduced. Integrated millimeter-wave radar technology enables continuous, non-invasive vital sign monitoring, supporting 24/7 patient care.

Proactive Security: Physical isolation between internal and external networks strengthens protection for critical hospital data, while end-to-end MACsec encryption helps safeguard sensitive patient information and supports compliance with local data protection requirements.

Unwavering Reliability: M-LAG + Twins dual protection enhances network resilience, enabling seamless switchovers within 50 milliseconds during faults or upgrades and helping ensure continuous availability for 24/7 medical services.

Together, these capabilities provide DMFH with a high-performance, secure, and resilient network infrastructure capable of supporting both current clinical requirements and the hospital’s continued smart healthcare transformation.

Results & Customer Benefits: Faster, Safer, and More Efficient Healthcare

Following the deployment, DMFH has achieved significant improvements across its clinical and operational environments.

Zero-roaming Wi-Fi 7 enables healthcare professionals to maintain continuous connectivity during mobile rounds, reducing packet loss and latency and supporting more efficient clinical workflows and patient care.

Ultra-high-bandwidth connectivity has also accelerated access to large CT and MRI files while enabling real-time AI-assisted analysis, helping medical teams access critical information faster and supporting more efficient clinical decision-making.

At the same time, end-to-end MACsec encryption and physical network isolation have strengthened the hospital’s protection of sensitive patient and clinical information while supporting local data security and privacy requirements.

The solution has also improved operational efficiency. Huawei’s open-standard architecture integrates with DMFH’s existing Network Access Control (NAC) system, helping the hospital protect its previous technology investments. Combined with a perpetual one-time licensing model, rapid supply chain delivery, lower overall CAPEX and OPEX, and professional IT staff training, the deployment provides DMFH with greater long-term operational flexibility and autonomy.

Building the Digital Foundation for Future Healthcare Innovation

By establishing a high-quality digital foundation with Huawei, DMFH has strengthened its ability to support increasingly connected and intelligent healthcare services.

The new network provides the performance, reliability, security, and scalability required for today’s clinical environment while creating a foundation for future innovations, including advanced AI-assisted diagnostics, smart medical robotics, and other data-intensive healthcare applications.

As DMFH continues its smart hospital transformation, the Huawei Xinghe AI Campus Network will help the hospital deliver a more connected and efficient healthcare environment while supporting its commitment to patient-centric care and the broader digital healthcare ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030.
