Jiangsu Future Networks Innovation Institute Uses Huawei's WDM Technologies to Build National Network Test Facilities in China

Aug 29, 2019

[Nanjing, China, August 29, 2019] Jiangsu Future Networks Innovation Institute and Huawei recently signed a cooperation agreement on the development of Future Network Test Facility, a major national scientific and technological infrastructure project. Huawei will use cutting-edge wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission technologies to provide comprehensive solutions for future backbone transmission networks. This project will cover 40 core cities in China, connect 88 backbone network nodes and 133 edge networks, and interconnect with network test beds all around the world.

The Future Network Test Facility Project aims to build a large-scale, multi-dimensional, and cross-disciplinary network innovation environment that is based on a novel network architecture. The project will also explore the technical roadmap and development path for future network evolution in China. While enabling service-oriented network customization, the project will provide a flexible, open, elastic, and intelligent next-generation technology verification platform for new services and applications such as wireless, cloud computing, artificial intelligence , and virtual reality (VR). An optical fiber backbone network that features ultra-broadband, ultra-high speed, as well as high reliability, flexibility, and intelligence must be constructed in order to build large-scale network test facilities that offer channels for the digital transformation of all industries such as energy, transportation, education, healthcare, and finance.

"Huawei's continuous innovation and accumulated experience in the ICT field are the main reasons why we chose Huawei as a partner. The future network test facilities will be based on Huawei's advanced WDM technologies," commented Professor Huang Tao, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Future Networks Innovation Institute and Chief Engineer of the Future Network Test Facility Project. "We will build a future-oriented next-generation network, which can support in-house network operating systems and implement unified management and control as well as on-demand grooming of backbone networks across China. In the future, both sides can cooperate on innovation and carry out in-depth scientific research based on this test facility platform. We can also continuously encourage the development of emerging technologies such as the industrial Internet, space satellite networks, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence , and healthcare big data."

Jin Zhiguo, President of Huawei Enterprise Transmission & Access Product Line, commented, "Huawei has been committed to strategic investment and technological innovation in the optical network field for many years, and has been deepening its cooperation with global customers to enable cutting-edge technologies to create value for more industries and consumers. We are very happy to cooperate with the Jiangsu Future Networks Innovation Institute to make contributions to China's major test verifications and incubation of future innovation achievements."

The Future Network Test Facility Project uses Huawei’s 100G to construct ultra-long haul backbone networks, Huawei’s 200G/400G to accelerate key links, Colorless, Directionless, Contentionless, and Gridless (CDCG) reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) to achieve flexible optical-layer grooming, and multi-service optical transport network (MS-OTN) to support the access of various services such as SDH, ETH, and FC disaster recovery. In addition, optical-layer automatically switched optical network (ASON) and intelligent brain Network Cloud Engine (NCE) are commercially used on a large scale to implement highly reliable transmission and intelligent operations and maintenance (O&M).
