Improving Collaboration through Video

Key Challenges

Mobilink had been leveraging video technologies to facilitate information sharing and live presentations for a number of years with much success within their departments. However, in 2012, Mobilink decided to expand its video strategy to a much broader scale. In doing so, Mobilink realized that not only were some of its legacy technologies lacking certain capabilities, but also that managing disparate technologies was not the most efficient and integrated way to operate.

  • Open Standard and Interoperability with Existing System

The biggest challenge Mobilink faced was to test a solution which can interoperate with their existing systems in order to avoid any kind of problem. The system has to be an open standard system, which can be easily upgraded with similar equipments in future.

  • Cut the Bandwidth Requirements on HD Videoconferencing

Mobilink’s existing video conferencing infrastructure was utilizing high bandwidth for communication. Thus Mobilink is looking for a solution to provide the best quality HD video conference based on 1080p standards and utilize less bandwidth

  • Reducing Travel Cost by Using Videoconferencing

With more than 5000 employees, and like any large organization, Mobilink found itself spending a large sum of money to get everyone together for meetings. “Audio conferences fall short, because people want to see each other to build rapport and develop relationship. And travel is costly and delays decision making.” says the Manager Technology - IT Enterprise Infrastructure Planning. “The reason we decided to go for Video Conferencing facility for our employees came from our desire to let all the different teams interact with each other, avoiding the time, costs and inherent fatigue of business trip for personnel.

Solution Highlights

To resolve these challenges for Mobilink, Huawei offered a standard HD videoconferencing system to upgrade the existing communication system. Based on the open exchange platform, the system offers easy and secure access to diverse communication services through a wide variety of terminals.

The major equipments provided to Mobilink are: RP100, VP-9050, RP200, which have the following benefits:

  • Fully Compatible to Existing Videoconferencing System

From a features perspective, Huawei solution met all of the Mobilink’s key requirements. Huawei provided a succesful POC and demostrated all functions required by Mobilink during the POC. The POC consisted of testing different scenarios and interoperatability of Huawei VC terminals (VP9050) with existing infrastructure.

  • Reducing Travel Cost by Multi-Function Terminals

Huawei video endpoints provide concurrently displaying remote video, remote presentation, and local video on one display device. Using the endpoint's remote control, users can choose from the following display modes: remote video in full screen, remote presentation in full screen, remote video + remote presentation, and remote video + remote presentation + local video. These mode enable different purpose video conferencing including meetings, trainings etc. which can reduce travel times and thus travels cost.

Using SIP networking for implementation and integration, the Huawei HD videoconferencing system provides TLS signaling encryption and SRTP media stream encryption to ensure the secure communication over network.

  • Travel Cost Saving & Increasing Team Connections

Travel cost is reduced by using video conferencing instead of face-to-face meeting, which help to reduce OPEX of the company. Meanwhile, team members from different locations can meet through videoconferencing system on any time in video conferencing system, instead of making appointment in advance and traveling all the way to have face to face meeting.
